In Ten Years time........
« on: June 12, 2016, 12:00:01 PM »
Next year the forum turns 10 years young. I was lucky to join in 2007 and have watched it grow immensly.

Over the last 9 - 10 years we have all seen members evolve in their style of camping and their change of lifestyle as age creeps up on us all.

So in the next ten years what do we all hope we will be doing.

For us,  we have decided to explore and work our way around Australia over the next ten years plus while we are still youngish and healthy. We expect to buy a new / second hand car and off road van which will be our house, in between jobs, over the coming years.

We want to explore and experience as much of the country as possible and places tourists never get to see. Its been a year and half since we left Cairns and we have never looked back.

Great thread. Hope to finish work by 2025 and have done the couple of OS trips still on the bucket list by 2020. Currently exploring SE Aus where we can cover most locations as long weekends or a week here and there. Then when I can access longer holiday periods, complete the farther afield locations through western NSW & Qld, heading west to the Kimberly, then south and everywhere in between.

Now of course if by some rare chance a $1.0m bag of cash falls from the sky, then I may re think my plans.

I also expect in 10years time that all of our 4WD & CT's are powered by the sun with no tyres. Simply riding on cushions of air.

For me next 10 years is making plenty of time for the kids so they hopefully grow into respectful Adults & then also be in a position where work is not so important

To get back on a more positive slant .
I will be in my 50's and as my dad told me 20 years ago and then when I turned 45 .

" this is the best time of your life , you have a job , money ,no real commitments , you are still fit enough to attempt ,and achieve anything you want "

If you a re lucky enough to be realtively mortgage free , financial independence gives you choices , you don't have to be rich to enjoy this great country .
The positives are , it's not at war , no one attempts to kill you for not following their version of the sky God , the government ( disregarding your political persuasion ) is stable , generally speaking everyone gets a fair go , we have doctors , schools and roads - not always perfect but better than most .

If you Ever think some where else is better , ask a tourist why they chose to holiday and travel here .

To all the miserable pricks out there , stop pissing and moaning and appreciate your family ,friends and the freedoms we enjoy here , ask yourself
" would I swap with any refugee from any country "

I double dare you .

I will be retired but won't own our own home, due to a business going bad but hope to have good health and my first State Championship in my beloved sport of cycling. I have silvers but not gold, due to being hit by a truck, as I was hitting very good form.  :cup:

Oh and also hope that my wife is able enough to enjoy travelling this great country.  ;)

What a great thread idea !!

If we are still around and have survived 40 plus years ( currently 36  :'( ) of working for QHealth  we will have probably upgraded to a self contained C'Van.
Love the swan outback as it is a huge step up from sleeping in tents on the ground, but sure as night follows day...there comes a time when a van is the next natural step...isn't it ?
Cheers

Having been pensioned of medically unfit about 10 months ago we have been able to concentrate on us for a change.  Still a long way to go to sort out medical side with some of it being a lifetime challenge.  Hopefully work will sort out my final pension and hopefully the final payout will get us started on our travelling lifestyle.
Cheers

Just got my 2008 Prado yesterday with a 0 km new engine after a fail of seats. Said to my wife it looks like this vehicle will be good for another 20 years - when I will be 90 and you take my licence off me.

Her response I better learn how to drive it then!

I am intending over the next 10 years do a lot more driving Australia and catching up with mySwaggers.

May replace the Cub with something a bit more comfortable though.

In 10yrs I reckon, excluding a lotto win I'll be still working as an expat miner hopefully still on a close to equal time roster...... been doing it for close to 10yrs now. I like this as I get ~6months at home acting like I'm unemployed bum, hehe.
The Mrs and I have just about got an empty nest, last girl finishes grade 12 this year, other 3 kids pretty much off and away already.
So in a 2-3 more years, finish off tidying up our current house, than look to downsize possibly, or stay put, unsure of that. Do know I like the idea of just the Mrs and I having the place to ourselves, as much as we love the kids....... :)
The Mrs and I plan to spend as much time as possible doing whatever the hell we want to do in the coming years, we're already breaking into this new found freedom now.

Looking forward to it.
