Cheap, blended scotch maybe.  A quality single malt is destroyed by adding ice.

KB

I don't know. I knew a bloke that spent time at Mawson Station that liked his scotch. They would mount an expedition to drive 80km across the ice to get 10000 year old ice from the glacier to put in their single malt.

I know this might sound obvious, and I'm not a scotch drinker.... but... why not put the bottle in the freezer? Then you wouldn't need ice to cool it, which will melt and dilute it in the 1st place.

People keep vodka/sambuca in the freezer. I had friends in Norway and they would go skating and take some vodka along. The bottle would be buried in the snow beside the lake so they could 'warm up'. Getting hammered while skating will never end well.

Yes - that's true...

Whilst I still can't get my head around understanding this - I have heard before that every drop of water on this planet has already been peed out at least one time by something.....

We use the ice cube bags as well. They work pretty well and ice cubes are a must for those gin and tonic times at camp! I don't like scotch.

Mark,

If you want to give the ice machine a go you are welcome to borrow mine.  It makes a tray every 10 minutes.

We use the small decor containers. 40mm round x 40mm deep they have a good sealing lid that does not leak even if they are upside down or on there side .most super markets sell them .Fill Em Freeze Em Then pour Wild Turkey over Em  ENJOY

We have a few longish trips coming up, and I was wondering, how do people go about making ice cubes in a Evakool/Engel style portable fridge/freezer.

I have looked on the web and can't find anything. Are there special style containers you can get that allow you to make ice cubes in a moving environment ? Because water in ice cube trays just won't work...

What do others do ?

We also use the sealable Tupperware trays. Work a treat!

Whisky stones are made from "soap stone".  It's a high mass stone so can hold more cold than light stones (heavy good, light bad)

Anything will work but some better than others.

I use 2 silicon ice trays, they make nice big square cubes. 9 each tray. That is easy enough for a night with me, so I just fill them before bed, and in the morning they are frizen for travel. No problems

Images of little boys in khaki sitting in a commercial freezer come to mind every time I see the title of this thread.    Cruelty to Cubs is not a usual camping enhancement.
