Gall boys at it again .

I don't mind watching The Gall Boys, but I have only seen a couple of their dvd's. They are the reason we visited Shady Camp up near Kakadu on our Darwin trip, if I hadn't have seen all the crocs there in their show, I'd of never known about the place. To see all those croc eyes at night lighting up the water like party lights , was amazing as we shine a torch across the lagoon.

I dont know BC, but they cant be doing too bad a job,  10 DVDs in roughly 20 years ... Soooo I guess theyre realy plugging the advertising bit and doing the hard sell Huh ! ..
Reckon if they were relying on pushing the dvds to sell their product, they should have went bust years ago .. But hey who cares Its a bit of entertainment / their gear and if they get a few extra orders from it so what .
 I say good on em, Ill never be able to afford their product, After all if your in a bussiness of any type the bottom line is to move as much product or have as much work as you can and  make a profit, which they seem to done quite well for a long time ..
Reckon I wouldnt mind Toyota or who ever giving me a few brand new 4wds to go thrash on holidays with ... Just for making a show of it and filming the trip ..

Der Of course it's advertising what off-road show isn't? The diff is they are doing it mainly on there own product but there also doing it for there own enjoyment or otherwise they'd be having somebody do it for them like Mr ARB, Mr TJM , and Mr Redarc Does!

And at least they have the guts to pull a product when it's crap.  Watch an early episode where they do about 8 tyres in a trip and they give them a bad wrap. They had to end up Bluring out that Sponsers name to keep all happy!

And yes Iam sure they make some bucks on the pure DVD sales nowdays.  additionally it's product development. They reiterate don't do this with our vans but it means that their vans can take a fair whack of mistreatment when taken on rougher roads etc. you don't hear a lot of bad things about there vans, other than how expensive they are.

I live a sheltered life, not seen any Gall boys videos, never heard of the shows with the 3 girls either.
Watching all these shows just reminds me of things and places I wanna do, so I don't watch them.

I personally don't want these posts to be about Gall Inc.    The main point I was making related to what I said in my initial 2 posts on this matter....

AKA -- Please give your viewer some credit - and acknowledge that you are "Selling to them"....

Based on some of the commentary in these posts - it would appear that some maybe sucked in - admiring their "fearless at all costs" bush bashing of Oz; and (daddy's) Kedrons; and the (sponsors) 4wds....

And I believe the videos ARE a huge arm of their marketing. ...

At the bne show last year they had a huge display of vans....    many many were sold through out the event....     In the middle of all that was a cute retro van flogging Gall dvds and apperal etc.       

What totally amazed me was I recall a sign saying something like "over 2 million hits on you tube...."     I don't recall the figure - but I do recall that it was a  MASSIVE number....

At least you acknowledge now they have Sponsers too and it's not all a tax write off aswell.

I personally reckon the likes of Roothy and Jas & Simon; and PatnHat   ...(probably through "desperate" necessary)   -- do make it plainly blatantly obvious that they are flogging ya crap...

I haven't watched the Leyland movies for a couple of years - (the amazing original stuff they did in the 1970's is on you tube)...     But I don't recall any of the PatnHat or Jas type of advertising in their original series...  ??

I was under the impression, (happy to be corrected if I am wrong);  ... that they were making their money by getting the TV stations to bankroll them in those early series?

No incessant plugging of sponsor product...     Gall Inc. don't overtly comment on how great the Kedrons are, or how you should go out and buy one...     So to that extent - they are reminiscent of the Leyland Brothers...   (except of course the Leyland boys didn't own Landrover)...

But as much as I know - Gall Boys also don't say "we own the company that makes these vans"...     Is that overall generally correct?; these statements are not included in their dvds...?   

ie:   If its not correct - then they would be disclosing this information in every dvd - and on several occasions...    Like when they say:  "don't treat your Kedron like we are treating this one you are watching in the video"  ... do they also add:  "because we own the factory - and for us repairs are cheap or free, etc"

I can't recall specifics but I seem to remember the Lelyand brothers having Sponsors?  Fuel company etc? Maybe not the very earliest, I bet the series where they towed a van around they did?  And if they had of been more business savvy they may of not ended up bankrupt and lost to TV? . Another example was malcolm Douglas who never said much but had ampol stickers and got free Toyotas and boats.

No the galls don't make a blanant "we own the company" statement irrc. But they also talk about the factory, and there dad starting building vans a zillion years ago and talk to owners who have bought From them. you'd have to be stupid to not put the two together !  But then again I suppose the ludicrous in our society today could argue for a full disclaimer because that's the way it's got be today hey?  because the stupidest can't put it together !

I don't ever recall Pat saying "Iam paid to promote xyz product " either he works around it. Perhaps he should for the Poor souls who maybe mislead that we as a society need to protect?

Just think of all those disillusioned people who went out and bought 3lt patrols on Pats say so!!!  We could of saved them all?  and Pat never said a disclaimer like the Galls?  "Don't drive this patrol like me for fear of the turbo blowing the motor"

Just enjoy them, there idiots but entertaining enough. I for one would never want to take anything weighing 1.5t or more where you can remotely get bogged so enjoy watching some idiot do it.
