Hi GG, bit late to the party on this one but I think it is definitely possible and works well for us.

Ours are also 8 and 6, and we are nearly finished 7 weeks on the road.

Firstly, we love our Ultimate so my response has inherent bias.

Second, our kids have both been camping since they were months old, so are comfortable in the outdoors.

Third, we moved to the Ultimate from a Trackabout, and much prefer it, however from time to time miss the large interior space in the soft floor.

We started off with the kids room under our bed, using the bunks from the Trackabout.  This worked really well for the first few trips, and would have been sustainable, but I was keen to get them into swags.

This trip we've done 7 weeks with the kids in swags and it has been awesome.  Mum was (still is) a little nervous about having the kids outside, but they have taken to it well. Miss 8 still likes to be under, or at least pretty close, but Mr 6 is keen to be as far away as possible. Already...

There's a fair bit of info about how we travel on our blog, need to do a few updates to bring it up to date for the last couple of weeks.

Cheers
Dave

Thanks Guys,

It was me who GG put the post up for.

All valid points, but thanks for your thoughts.

Cheers

Hey steeroids. Welcome. A mate of mine has just done his maiden voyage in his ultimate. He purchased 2nd hand, and has the kids room for under the bed. He has a boy and girl and they slept in the underbed room on self inflating mattresses. The text message I just received from him tells me he is very happy with his choice in camper. In fact he had a smile ear to ear all weekend. He has come from a lifestyle soft floor.
