convert weber 200 to a 2000 with split plates
« on: January 16, 2016, 10:55:24 AM »
As you all know the latest version of the weber q reange has split plates :cup:

yest you have to buy it as an extra as you still need 2 x grill for roasting and baking etc.

so my older 200 series does not have the body mounting points for a splt plate arrangement it only has 1 tab for the full grill to sit on.

I called weber and they sell a conversion kit with 2 x grill sections and some little clips to convert it ...but then you have to buy the flat plate on top.

after some pretty heated disscusssion they finally agreed to give me just the clips and my 5 inch grinder took care of the split plate  ;D

Now i finally have a decent flat plate and grill which is what i want as snags on flate and steak on grill and I can have the lid down.

I know others have purchased the full plate from other sources but I really wanted a split plate . good on weber for listening to what customers want .

i could not understand why its an extra why cant i buy it with split plate ..but you cant roast or bake with the flate plate in so it makes sense.

$59 for BabyQ
$69 for Q200

for the flat plates

jet ;D

oh the pic is backwards the flat plate is upside down  :-[ so its on the left and grill on the right if you have not drunk 10 beers . I aslo decided to pop rivet the clips on as they would have fallen out for sure and got lost

I just use a mat for the same effect, $5.00, cleans in 5 sec's and can use indefinitely.

Cook steak on a plate?  Yuk, that is akin to drinking wine out of a cardboard box, a serious crime.
I cut said BBQ Mat as to cover only half the grill.
Steak on the grill.
Onions, tomatoes, eggs etc on the mat.

So there's just the two clips to do this? Did you just call the national Weber number?

Yep, I do the same.  Except I have a mat that cover the whole grill.  If doing eggs or onions, and steak, just fold it in half.

I did but be prepared to be told the clips are sold in a kit with the 2 x grill plates.

would not be hard to copy the concept with some ally angle

Jet, have you had any dramas with the cuts you made in the grill?
