Blaming the crowds for obstructing the sensible line is like blaming peer pressure. Lame excuses.
My mates drove over the rocks minutes after that happened and said the crowds behaviour there was disgusting, and they were the main reason people were being held up at that location, people not getting out of the way of where they wanted to drive through. If you'd seen the massive line up of vehicles trying to get through there at that time, all being obstructed by onlookers that won't get out of the way, then you may understand why some frustrated fools would choose to try and go around the rocks. The line up of vehicles was past the beach entrance back up the bitumin road at Rainbow when my mates came back to there, hence why they went Freshwater Track for the return run. Can't say i would have driven through that water myself, but plenty of others don't seem to think a salt water bath is a huge issue, they'll just wash the vehicle when they get home apparently. Nobody was forcing people to drive in the water, but the crowd being there was causing massive issues for vehicle traffic trying to negotiate the rocks.

We went through yesterday afternoon. All fairly uneventful. Tide was running out and most cars had to run around the rocks between small waves, nothing serious. There was a fair que of cars going both ways. Apart from the cars the delay was the f&$ktards walking in the only path through the rocks. It was amazing how arrogant some of these clowns were.

Tide heights have been dropping the past few days which would help some more now with negotiating the rocks, the big Easterly winds last week plus the over 2.0 mtr hightide heights was pushing a lot of water up on the beach. As you say though, it's amazing how arrogant and stupid some people are with the way they walk the only path available for people to drive.

I winched a patrol and van out of the lesha track today and I half to admit there are some totally idiots up here.
Patrol was on eastern side in the middle right at the top, do you think cars could wait 3 mins for us to pull him out. Nup!
Being soft they come roaring through yelling, and one of them had to stop as he was about to run straight into the booged car. The others missed it by about 40 cm Max..

I just don't get it, the patrol had all the gear so I was willing to help, whilst all the other vehicles with young blokes under 30 sat around either yelling move it, or driving dangerously or laughing at the van? In the end the idiots nearly killed a few people driving whilst a recovery was in progress.

I agree rumpig the crowds and others seem to cause the problem.

which would be fine if you stay out of the way of where people are trying to drive...these clowns aren't doing that though, which is the problem.

yeah the place is absolute crap over that period.....

If you choose to get away from all the ferals, there's still places to relax there at Xmas as both these pics show. We were up around those parts from Boxing Day until the 2nd, though not camped on Teewah Beach as it's way to busy there IMHO. We had this lagoon area pretty much to our own group of 6 families that were camping together, well away from us at the point itself and entrance to Leisa Track however was busier then a shopping centre carpark the day before Xmas.

to be honest GRC,...you do need to put some effort in to get away from the clowns, it's not easy at times, but is certainly doable. Heading down the bottom end of Teewah Beach and going out the first cutting will also help to avoid most of the idiots aswell, seems to be more family friendly down there most of the time, though i (and a couple of mates) did have words with one young fella one day that was towing his jet ski rather quickly past everyone...if he'd just let his tyres down he wouldn't have had to try and drive so quickly to stop from getting bogged.

Not defending the young bloke but you probably taught him something my father wasn't able to teach me.

Being the boring old sod that I am, when I was up on the beach I missed all that action.
Why
I drove on the beach when conditions were favorable
I left when it started to turn.
The reason I hadn't been there for 21 years was the idiots, funny thing is we were young blokes up to no good having fun at the same time.

Yep I was young once and might have played up on the beach........

Over the eight days we camping on Teewah over Xmas we didn't really see too many idiots (no matter where you go they is always one or two floating around).......we will be back.
