I have Quadra lift on the Jeep so not a problem. ... and much easier to tow than a 20ft brick

How did the 2 "Modcon" models compare?

I recently sold my ecomate rearfold & whilst i was generally happy with it, there were a few little things that pissed me off (think electrical).
I was think of a Modcon Quattro, though a bit of study on their website has me not liking the kitchen/fridge layout on them, so i then progressed to the Ecomate FF or the Modcon FF.

So apart from the $3k price difference is there much between the 2 campers? If you've had the chance to compare side by side i'd be interested in you comparison/opinion

I narrowed my search to either of these or i'll go all out & get an Aussie swag (but only if swmbo agrees  ;D ;D)

I think if this didnt have the boat rack then I would have gone the Modcon FF1

With the FF1, the finish is a lot better (different factory), the walls are higher so you can stack a few more things inside, I like the pole storage section and a more useable pantry, stove has a grill and better wind shield plus led light, batteries accessible from inside and room for charge etc, front storage box is bigger and suspension has been redesigned so sits a bit higher, door handles are easier to use, looks nicer and I prefer the wheels, can fit a bike rack to rear spare wheel carrier, bigger water tank.

The Ecomate was cheaper, has a bit more room from the room getting into the bed (less storage than FF1), was cheaper.

They are the main points that I remember, I was keen on buying the FF1 over the ecomate that they had on display but the one that I bought for some reason had a few extras, draws under the bed, had the better locks, had a better wind shield and kitchen led, had the bike rack on the spare wheel carrier and had the boat rack

Well the mods have started ... my fridge is temperamental with power and the cig plug was not up to it so ran some new wire from battery to 2 anderson plugs so I can run to fridges when needed... also added another cig plug in pantry area plus 2 cig plugs by kitchen and a light by the step...its a bit dark when you set up plus midnight beer runs... i did notice that the water pump switch and kitchen side light switch had poor connections so have to redo that next

Just a point......I think you will find if you hook up the awning roof and leave it attached and leave it on you will find it's better than the day awning....If it rains the day awning will pool up...I learned that the main awning roof was able to be left on when i saw wilson79 set up heading to the tip...It's not hard to pack away.

               Cheers Tracker.

Heading back down to Byron Bay for the long weekend and looking at taking the surfboards on the boat rack but it had to many tie down lugs to sit the boards on so out with the grinder and off a couple came... now have room for 2 boards. Also fixed the wiring for water pump and kitchen led which came loose the other day and purchased some storage containers for stuff that I what to leave packed... now just waiting for Friday

Its been a good test this weekend....catering for 3 teenagers and coping a good downpour. ... no leaks so thats good...  I have the main annex roof up and used the travel awning over the back for shelter for the table. Day 3 and all is good

Noo... looks like Ihave to sell my Modcon ecomate
« Reply #36 on: June 25, 2016, 06:47:17 AM »
After a month in New Zealand ...It looks like I wont be bringing the camper over... with limited car storage we will struggle to have a place for 1 car plus motorbike and bicycles let alone the camper and then a tow car plus having not had a pay in 9 months and I still have a month to go before my first pay here so will look at selling the camper to free up capitol and save a head ache...a pity as it would be so good over here so if anyone is interested I am looking at $18k....has been used 3 times (2 weekends and a 5 day trip to Byron)...improvements are listed on here. I am in Brisbane next weekend (30th jun to 3rd Jul) if anyone is interested....
