Scotch Greys are common in SE QLD. Just info not a fight. Sorry if I upset you.

We live in The Dandenong Ranges and have a heap of mozzies here as well.

I haven't been able to find anything to keep them away.

We are usually locked inside from mid afternoon or we have a gazebo with a fly screen out the back.

Good luck and if you find what works let me know.

GG ,mosquitos hey ,maybe they are getting blown north from Tooradin ( Aboriginal for mosquito )
I do like Spadas post  ,do you have shade trees around ,the bugger hide up in them ,out of the wind,and come out when the wind dies off ,late afternoon seemingly  ,a few natural plants underneath them may work wonders
If I can get my act together and restrain the minions from spending my hard earned  and get to build my outdoorsey area ,I would plant a few of these plants ,if they don't work ,they can meet Mr mower

I use stuff called Coopex. It's a residual insecticide powder. Mix it with water and spray it on the vegetation where you think the burgers live (when I spray along the base of the fence to the north it really stirs them up). It takes a few days to work but definitely reduces the problem, a lot. I probably spray twice, start of summer and around Christmas, maybe again if it's a long summer.

We also have a big mozzie issue - to the point where our outdoor area and bbq is barely used.  I'd love to find a solution but I feel that screening a section is probably the only reliable way.
We back onto state forest and I am fairly sure there is some standing water in gullies about 100m away from our house.  They seem bad in the local park which is about 200m further away from the forest though ... but the park is next to a creek so maybe there's another issue there.

We just use coils down here as its all we need. When we were in Sarina, mozzies and midges were super thick, so we had to get a bit more fair dinkum. Citronella was was pretty smelly for us but we found both Raid & Mortien brand lanterns worked the best for us. Once you have the lantern, you can get refills containing the candles & repellent strips. I think it's something like 5m coverage in any direction that they cover and the last 4-6 hours (the duration of the candle). They do add up in price if you use them all the time, but they worked a treat for us.

Im not the villian some of the more precious types that like to take a shot from the shaddows would have you believe.
Ive never heard of scotch greys but ive been i  swamps in indonesia and malaysia and they are insanely bad.

All good. I'd never met anything like them in my time up in the tropics with the Australian Army. A simple ambush exercise became an exercise in extreme discipline whilst being eaten alive in the foothills of the Bunya Mountains. They went straight through our army greens as if we were naked. Six hours lying in wait, while being eaten alive is certainly an exercise in focus  ;D

Someone at the national meet was saying mozzies don't like more than 6kph breeze.  Can't remember who butthey had nice eyebrows.

When we lived in Scotland, the only thing that worked for us against the Scottish Midgie was Avon Skin So Soft.
No idea whether it would also protect against mozzies?

scotch greys are murderous!! We are out during the evening/nights on the farm every night.   in summer it is a case of dousing yourself in rid or similar as these mossies bite through all clothing even jeans!!
