Duragal chassis, a can of touch up paint each trip and a heap of memories of where you have just been. I have a set of rubber at the front edge of the trailer but it only slows the bigger ones.

Will be adding a stone stomper before the next trip to protect the back of the cruiser

One of the main reasons I went with paint over duragal.its easy to touch up after gravel rash or repairs and added protection underneath.i went with red oxide etch primer over the duragal then hammerite over that.hammerite will still wear off but it takes longer and I've still got 2 stages of protection under it.as far as what I'll add as deflectors ect I havnt got that far yet

Yeah Mark, I have wonderd the same.  Spend $20K or even 5 times that and you still haven't got a fully protected camper/van.

Have looked at a couple recently and asked why the chassis wasn't galvanised.  Both manufacturers told me they didn't think it was necessary but both were trying to sell me an offroad CT.  Obvously they have never tested their trailers on the dirt roads I have travelled and want to continue to travel.  Got home from the myswag Centre trip last year and the front half of my chassis was sandblasted back to bare metal.  I will never buy another camper with a painted chassis.

A Stonestomper would have stopped the damage to my upright stone guard and is something I intend to fit to my current CT very soon.  It also would have stopped the sandblasting of my drawbar but I don't think it would have stopped the stone damage further back.  Can someone please advise how far back a Stonestomper protects?

If you come up with a solution, send me a PM and we can go into business making them.

Stones will still take the galvanizing of as well. Maybe not as easy but certainly will.

Dan.

I generally agree.
Off road and 'pristine' just don't go together, so repair, maintain and go again.

Gravel roads will do it and break back windscreens as I found and so-
http://www.myswag.org/index.php?topic=25391.msg391612#msg391612
Modified that since with plastic pulleys to allow the bungee cord to adjust evenly on tight turns and you want stronger stainless steel lashing hooks on the bar as I discovered. Also poly tarp is the go as mud and clay won't stick to it, unlike shadecloth where some find the clay buildup weighs their stonestomper onto the ground and stuffs it.

Bought a HD Oztrail 6'x4' tarp (the ideal size) and will get that modified for the right eyelets and that sizing would do any camper when coupled with the rubber flaps. However on gravel roads I've found it's the flaps that do most of the protecting, but nothing stops the speed jockeys overtaking or coming the other way. Galv chassis always for mine and now all I have to do is stop the dirt and gravel getting into the back of those rear stabiliser arms Jayco have but that's from the camper wheels.

I've been considering spraying the undercarriage with sound deadener like you put in the wheel arches.

My underfloor will be sound deader. Easy to repair and highly resistant to wear.
If i had the money to spare it would all be rhino liner or similar and if I find that guy who won lotto hiding under my house I probably will

Dan.

My 2 KK's were still in good shape (chassis wise ) after a few trips in the outback....so a gal chassis all the way for me..

Best idea for a stone "ready" trailer is the most important part...a Stone Stomper......next a full width rubber flap near where the stomper finishes...then more flaps in front of anything else under there that you don't want smashed by rocks....like trailing arms, water tanks or fittings etc..

Couple of cans of this will cover underneath, applied with a splatter nozzle. Touched up after each annual "big trip".
