Terrible tragedy. You can just get caught though. This was Kingsford Smith Drive. last night. The water just started rising and there was nowhere to go for most cars. The guy in front is on the median strip and it is up to his bumper and flowing fast. There were cars to my left that would have had water to the top of their wheels and rising. There was no overflow when we were stopped due to the accident further down the road.

My wife left the CBD at 3pm to try to get home.  Got as far as Zillmere on the train, then had to take a combination of bus and taxi to make the remaining 30km.  It took her 7 hours to get home.

I was stuck in the CBD until about 9.30, it was a pretty clear taxi run home, but the number of broken down cars on the side of the road was unreal.  I was told the majority of them had simply run out of fuel from being in stop-start traffic for so long.  Saw a couple of cars in the middle of waterways - idiots.

My wife was reading something on the net lastnight about the 3 people who died at Caboolture, apparently it was a post on facebook by someone who watched the car get washed away as it happened out front of where he lived supposably. The guy said the vehicle drove around a road closed sign before it was washed away, and after that happened people were still trying to drive through the water, this guy was out on the street trying to stop people ignoring the signage. If this really was the case, then it shows the absolute stupidity of many people when it comes to ignoring the "if it's flooded forget it" warnings we hear all the time.

just heard about that on the telly right now, wonder what the actual details for that loss of life are

We avoided most of the bad stuff here at woombye, yes lots of rain but didn't effect our daily duties.

Poor rescue teams putting their own lives on the line to save those who decided to take the risk and drive around road closed signs!

2010 TTD Landcruiser, i have added stuff but can't remember what! Slowly gettin quicker at setting up the brumby but breaking camp is another matter....

I just saw more details on the news regarding the 5 deaths yesterday....2 vehicles were swept off the road at Caboolture in the same location, both vehicles had 3 people in each. 3 people died in one vehicle and one in the other, it appears the kids of the driver in the second car managed to get out. The 3rd vehicle swept off the road was at another location at Burpengary, the driver died and his passenger (wife i think it was) managed to escape. So the death toll could have been 8 people yesterday if not for the lucky escapes of 3 passengers in 2 of those vehicles.

this happened on Granard Rd at Rocklea, intersection of Beaudesert. I came through inbound at 5 and water on the outbound side was halfway up a sedan's wheels. but as there was a truck jack knife further up Ippy road, traffic was at a standstill on the outbound side, and water was rising and flowing across to my side. about 10 minutes later, the whole intersection wasn't moving and cars were stuck. lucky I got through in those 10 mins, but I heard not long after on the 2way that the cops had closed the intersection and the poor people stuck in the middle just had to get out and stand in the rain while their cars flooded.

the problem is those in sedans that try to cross even low flooded roads that aren't flowing fast - saw quite a few that had tried to go through and ended up stopping just on the other side, which were pulled or pushed out by others. whereas in a fourby you know the depth we can safely cross - as long as its clear the water isn't flowing fast (ie if you know the road well).

I went to the game last night, but they cancelled it just after I arrived. It's a shame because it's never been so easy to get a good park.

Don't blame us southerners. We have had only 116 mm for the year. My nephews walked across my dam today and didn't even get their shoes muddy. When the dam is full it is 14 feet deep. If you banana benders are sick of the rain , send some our way. I'm carting water for the stock and you can forget about the veggie garden this year.  >:(

I left work at moggill around 4:30 and had the fun drive back home to northlakes. I saw a lot of little cars (swifts, getz, jazz) get in a bit of trouble in the inner suburbs I was sitting on old northern road near Pickering street at enroggera and a little Getz was driving up the right hand land when a asshat in a over the top hilux came up the left hand lane which was completely under about 2foot deep and just smash the little car with water and made it stall or worse suck up a gut full of water

I was stopped at Gowen Road Drewvale & the semi in front went through and the water was 1/2 way up his wheels and was flowing reasonably. A council bus followed him and I thought what an idiot. After that a white Camry followed and got about 1/4 of the way across and stopped, obviously water stopped the engine as it was well above the top of his wheels by then. An asian man got out of the drivers side followed by his wife from the passenger side. I just shook my head and turned the Patrol around to go another way.
