6 good sized trees came down today on our 5 acre block. Average of about 18" diametre. We were loking at maybe 3 or 4 years of firewood but then had an epiphany. Maybe we could mill them and geta bit of coin. Anyone done this? I am looking at a chainsaw mill attachment for about $150. Worth a go me thinks.

A guy at work has done it. Pretty simple to slab the trees with the correct jig but it does take a long time and a lot of fuel/chains/oil. The hard part is to dry the slabs so they don't split. He told me the technique but I can't remember.

What sort of trees came down? Good quality slabs, boards can attract good money, don’t forget to allow for drying and shrinking and shaking of ends. End cuts will need to be sealed to prevent cracking/shaking and to slow the natural drying process. Moisture content will need to get down to 15% and under to be ideal.
Read up on milling and drying, it could be 5 years plus before you get a return.

Yep, generally allow 12 to 16months per one inch thickness rough sawn for drying, rough sawn 50mm thick 2 to 3 years dependent on density of the timber, pine quick, red gum slow.

Mostly stringybark far as I  can tell. Time is no issue. Thinking of maybe 40mm cuts. Stacking it with 1" slats between each slab. Any ideas as to what to seal the ends with? Seems a bit of a waste to burn it as we have mega lots of burny wood already.

That was the heaviest rain I've ever driven through.... thunda and lightning like havent seen in years.... The standing water on the Western Port scared fawk out of me, couldnt see there was standing water.. also couldnt see for 10+ seconds, wipers on full didnt do a thing..  even though all traffic was only doin 40-50k's. Felt for the learner next to me in the mazda 2
