Uno, Yahtzee, bingo and scrabble all get a run when we are camping.  We also have a family games night once a week where all electronic devices and TV's are turned off. It took the kids a court of weeks to get used to it but now they are excited about games night. Cludo, mousetrap, and monopoly kids are the favourites at the moment.

A good game of "Greasy Pigs" is always fun.

Items Needed ; A large portion of black plastic sheeting and an industrial sized bottle of flavoured baby oil. >:D

Instructions: Strip naked and get into it.  >:D

Everything packs up in no space at all too.

Our eldest, Oliver, is a Yahtzee addict!

However it has given him an excellent mathematics brain and his teachers are astounded how good he is at maths - and he can add numbers up quicker than we can - and not just 0-30 either.

We try and take other games on holidays but usually end up only playing the aforementioned Yahtzee  ::)

We've got dozens of board games from Pay Day, four versions of Monopoly, Scotland Yard, and The Mining Game, through to your typical Operation, Twister, Cluedo, Scrabble, Headache, Ludo etc...  but we have yahtzee, boggle, uno, a few decks of cards and the crib board permanently in the camper. We also play our own version of Scattegories.

Unfortunately we don't get the board games out any where near enough these days. Might have to remedy that.

In my younger pre marriage days, in Airlie Beach, mate & I played "Zilch" & a game called "Dead Ant" which involved O.P. Bundy rum & certain other substances. I would never condone this though!

Like I said uno or even better phase 10 by the same makers would have to be the most portable family friendly games going.

We used to live in Africa as kids where TV didn't start until 5pm and quite often the electricity supply was 'intermittent' so had a good silly of board games. Mostly Scrabble (still got the old one with wooden tiles and holders) monopoly, battleships and Yahtzee. 7 year old loves Yahtzee now.  We alwayss travel with a pack of cards as there's lots of games to play. Our favourites were Gin, Hearts, and 'Spite and Malice'. It is basically Skip Bo but with normal cards. I have many fond memories of playing this for hours against my grandmother

We are a strictly 'no electronics' family when we travel.

kids have started to learn chess which is interesting!
normal card games played here especially Uno. Kids also really getting into pictionary at the moment.

On the way back from the Vic High Country last saturday played an epic game of "I Spy".

We take these 3 and play each of them every day. Never gets old.

Cleudo --- the kids love the crime solving and secrecy theme of this game.
Scrable --- 2 teams with a kid and adult on each, they love making up rude words.
Monopoly Millionaire --- much better than regular monopoly as there is more strategy and team work.

Games have always been big in our house. Kids are bigger now but with still have regular games at family dinners. Card games, skip-bo, some triva games. My son got a particularly good game called cards against humanity which is a ball for a group of people (especially after a couple of beers) but definitely an over-18's one. The wife and I always take our favourite "trains game" (Ticket to ride) with us when we camp and another board game "Alembra".

Games are big in our house, too.

At home, Mouse Trap, Scrabble, Upwords and Sequence get a good run with the 6 year old.

When we're travelling/holidaying, we always take Bananagrams, Tantrix, Uno and a pack of 500 cards. They're all compact to pack, but provide for plenty of variety.
