Well it all depends,
In perspective, a brand new zx-6r is 16g ride away, very similar for the Daytona 675.
Used say around 10-12g for a good low km one.
848 is similar money etc etc. I can't really justify >15g on a 1990s model bike, its too much money for a non collector like myself lol.
A brand new rc8 is only 22g, used around 15g.
All relative I suppose though, but ideally the less I spend the better.
The main thing pushing me to new or near new especially on the zx-6r is the traction control, smart abs and other safety features just not found on older bikes.

Cheers

IF you feel you need a penis extension, why not buy a used 2011+ GSXR600 for $7-8k and bank the rest.. let someone else lose the cash

Another good sports tourer is the Zook bandit...

ZX9's can be had for $4000 and go hard, and handle like on rails, same as the ZX7's... cheap as piss for a used bike.

having owned over 50 of the things, I'll never own anything but Japanese ever again.. ****ing nightmares you have to go through for warranty... that Shitcati I had had 22 warranty issues in 18mths. Dumb **** me wouldn't listen to the boss as the shop warning me not to get one... :(

I've just spent the last 2 1/2 years restoring this old girl. Just got it on club plates recently and took it for a 300km spin last Sunday.

This was the state it was in when I got it.

And here's a shot of her big brother. I had to wait 27 years to get hold of one of these.

Getting close to completing this one, which I got given when I went to pick up the old black one. Just waiting to get the engine rebuilt now.

A before shot. Doesn't look too bad from a distance but it needed a ground up resto as well.

2013 Husaberg FE 350. Riding the dirt is much more fun than the road.

Next bike? I have an old xr350 I was contemplating turning into a cafe racer but may look to doing that to something else

A lot of sportsbike riders have dismissed VFRs as 'tourers', or 'old mans sportsbikes' over the years... until the VFR disappears into the distance :)

Go and ride the just-released 2014 VFR800 before you write them off as an option...

I have a restored 1978 T3 Moto Guzzi and bought an 2007 Daytona 675 on the weekend so if you can wait I'll let you know what it's like on the Track last track bikes were early R1s probably around five years since I've track dayed have a mate who races BEARS on a 675 and raves about them. Truth is all your options are awesome and pretty much all bikes are better than us mere mortals

I learnt to ride when I was 5yrs old, as the old man use to do enduro racing etc. Use to ride with Kelvin Thomas and his boys down at Wonthaggi and most race tracks.

Last bike I owned was XR250 but when I turned 18 and got my car license, I let my bike license lapse and didn't renew :(

I've still got my Stagg leathers that reach my knee.

yea chook chasers are fun, but not the best on the road for distance.. but with good brakes and tyres (EG: Motad), you will hose most roadbikes through tight windy roads.

Haven't had a bike for about 7 years now.  But the best bike I owned was an Aprillia RS 250, was great fun on the track the R1,s would blast past you on the straight but you would go straight underneath them in the corners.  Also had a 929 fire blade which was a great bike, comfortable and handled well.  If I was you though I would go gsxr750 great all round sports bike, have ridden a mates track bike around the island and heaps of fun.  Good luck with the decision.  Cheers

It was geared to climb Everest so was screaming its head off doing 100... Heaps of fun off road though.

My current ride is a 99 R6.

Great fun and plenty fast enough but with a move to the NT in Jan I'm looking to down size to a WR250R dual sport.

All original, fastidious owner, low kays, only ridden on Sund....  Who am I kidding!  Engine work, daily rider, tons of kays and always ridden like its the worlds fastest production bike. >:D
