What Motor bike do you ride and what should my next one be?
« on: October 19, 2014, 10:33:06 AM »
Ok as the title suggests What bike do you ride?
And what should I replace my current one with.

At the moment I am riding a Ninja 300 (sporty looking moped) and because I have been such a good boy I am off restrictions very shortly and looking to go bigger.

Years ago I road a GSXR1300 and came off it, so not looking to go that big again. Probably stay around the 600-800cc mark as I really don't need a litre bike.

A couple I am thinking of so far are:

# ZX-6R (636)
# Daytona 675R
# Ducati 848 Evo
# GSXR 600
# R6

There is 1 bike that is breaking the litre restriction and that is the KTM RC8..... Don't need it, but I really want it lol
The thought behind not needing a big (BIG) bike is that most of what I do with it is ride to work and then a bit of fun after work and such with friends.
But the main reason for staying with a SS is that I do plan on doing a fair few track days when I get the time off work.

Anyway let me know what you ride and why  ;D

Cheers

Won't you need something big enough to put a tow bar on for the campers?  :D

So mine is a 94mdl CBR 1000. Only 5 more years till I can club rego it  :D :D

Nay-DMAX and I went for a short ride yesterday. I need to get out on mine more. Would love to ride to QLD on it but SWMBO isn't keen to go further than maybe Toc!

Edit: here is a pic of not my bike, but same colour and same rack and everything.

The size of the bike doesn't mean you won't come off again, and if you say you are keen to do a fair few track days, would indicate you are proficient in riding anyway.

Anyway I own a Suzuki Bandit 1200, beautiful sports / tourer, but wouldn't suit your track day needs. I guess find what is comfortable, some of those you listed have a very aggressive riding position.

VFR800... humbles many bigger bikes without trying and you can do 1200+klms a day without trying.

This is my two bikes, a 2000 Triumph Sprint and a 1973 Honda Z50. I've had the Triumph since 2003 and the Honda since new.

Everytime I ride the Triumph I love the acceleration and torque, and the comfort, but the Honda (aka Errol) gets ridden a lot more these days. He is such a buzz :) BTW he does have a few enhancements to drag my heavy butt around :D

We sold our bikes are year or so ago.

Apart from vapourising the licence every so often, the older I get, the less talent I had to work with and being self employed, it just made good sense to call it quits.

Especially the chopper, 140HP, nitrous, 300 rear tyre, 40 degree rake in a light bike that felt like you were riding a pogo stick on meth or ice and handled like an office chair being towed down a highway.

Young bloke that bought it loves it.

He rang  me one and said, "yep, smokes the back tyre in 3 gears....... just like ya said it would."  ;D

Oh, the other issue, being bright orange pearl and loud pipes, was the attention it got from the plod.

It made riding it like an elephants foreskin, quite a drawback.

Thanks guys,
I know that the size of the bike won't be the deciding factor in coming off, as they say there are only two kinds of riders. Those that have come off and those that have yet to come off.

It more comes down to the fact that the extra power above a sub litre bike is really not something I need. Plus keeping the bike a bit lighter is always a bonus. Not in a rush to get back onto something as heavy as the Busa again.

JK, I think I remember catching a glimpse of that beauty or you told me about it when I was up that way a while ago. That is a gorgeous bike!! One of the main reasons I am considering an 848 Evo. I rode one a little bit ago and I couldn't wipe the grin off of my face for days. However as it will be a daily ride as well I am concerned about the running costs and reliability.

Haha Danny, much better out this way for cars an such, it is pretty safe as far as traffic goes. However a motard did cross my mind, but for track days it isn't going to give me the best lap times lol

Lino/Nay, No need for a tow bar. However the spyder for you guys is a great idea.  ;D

Bird, the VFR was high on my list, but its more a tourer than than a SS, However the older VFR's and even the older RVF was up there but the prices aren't really competitive for what Im thinking of spending.

Cheers

I currently ride an 07 Triumph Tiger 1050... Wowser. Great torque in all revs. Being a triple it has a good sound too.
My learner bike was a Suzuki GS500F, good little learner. Bit heavy for the Provisional test, but made it through. Figured if I cant do the test on the bike I was riding no point having that size bike!
I like Triumphs in general, and if I had to get a more straight line cruising harley type bike as apposed to a love the corners type bike I would go for a Triumph again in a heart beat.

After owning a few very trick sports bikes I ended up with this.

It's wasn't as fast as my GSXR750 (which I rode faster than the litre bikes!), but made me laugh every time I rode it. A wicked fun bike. And it sounded awesome as well.
For track I would jump straight back on a GSXR750.

My current ride is a K1 GSX-R600, always liked them, goes fast enough and like you wanted to stay away from litre bikes. Greenslip & insurance is cheaper too
I ride mine to work (100km round trip) on occasion and I haven't found it too uncomfortable

In saying that would love the Ducati 848 Evo if I had the coin!
