Pacific Highway holiday traffic

Well my learned, well traveled friends, I need some advice on holiday traffic from Hexham to Forster. For the first time ever, we are braving the holiday traffic to head to Forster to camp with my family and nephews. We are planning on leaving East Maitland at 7am Saturday, which puts us at Hexham at about 7.15 What should we expect the traffic to be like? If mayhem and chaos is the answer, will traveling earlier or later help?

I think no holiday traffic, its the winter school holidays ,no snow to the north, no long weekend,and  a dual carrageway all the way from the Hexham Bridge. I think your only hold up will be at the  McCafe coffee counter or the Ladies toilet..

I was thinking the same thing, but it's been a while since I lived and travelled up there. I don't think you'll have much of a problem.

My four year old has been driving me crazy with "we go on 'olidays?".

We're heading to Happy Hallidays, just need to try and keep warm

Doing the same thing to Tuncurry, leaving south side of Sydney about 6 am and will just get In whatever is out ther and chug along. I hate the trip through Sydney more than the trip from Hornsby north to Newcastle. Always prefer to go south or west, though not this time around.

Save travels and as always keep an eye out for drivers who have little desire to arrive alive!

Its probably slightly over being a two hour trip, so I can't see it be in an issue. Take the lakes way if you're worried about road congestion. It may be a longer route but its far more scenic.

You'll have no probs at all.......your biggest worry will be trying to keep warm at Hallidays !!

You could cut straight across from Maitland to Raymond Terrace, you go past the cemetery and brick works at Maitland and come out on the Dungog, Stroud road . We used it every time when traveling down to visit the inlaws, use the new road now.

Cut through old maitland rd back onto pacific hwy nth of Richardson rd.

Thanks all, I may cut through the back way to Raymond Terrace. Probably wait and see.

If you go the pacific hwy you can always jump off at the Tarro/ Woodbury exit if the traffic is bad, this will put you back onto old maitland rd with a few turns,

I would say it would be a lot better than the old days when we used to go up to Cresent head

Left newcastle once at 5pm friday - arrived cresent head 2am saturday

There was always someone who came unstuck and turned the Bulladelah moutains into a car park

No problem at all with the traffic, straight through. The kids loved Happy Hallidays and so did Daddy, just floating in the heated pool, not a worry in the world. It was the most relaxed I've felt in probably 15 years or more.
