Air conditioning techs
« on: May 06, 2014, 06:37:56 PM »
Is there any aircon techs on myswag
I have 3 pansonic reverse cycle aircons 1 has a burnt out compressor
2 one has become noisey and not producing much heat >:D Does it need regasing?
The 3rd one only comes on when it feels like
When you hit the power button on the remote it sometimes fires up and sometimes doesn't  >:D
Could this be the circuit board dry joint ?

I'll try the third one. Change the batteries in the remote. Also clean the contacts with a bit of emery paper or steel wool. With new batteries and dirty contacts the remote will carry on as if the batteries are almost flat. I can't help with the other two. Good luck  ;D

If Room air conditioners, repair of anything out of warranty is not worth it 90% of the time.

Burn out is a shot duck unless under warranty, repair is not commercially viable under 8kw in unit capacity.
Dingo is on it for remote batteries, very common.
The lazy one sounds short of gas. Go to the outdoor unit if it is a split, whip the cover off the end. With the unit on heating and the compressor running for over 2 minutes the larger of the 2 pipes should be too hot to hold but not so hot that your spit sizzles on the pipe.
Sizzle = slightly short, get it repaired asap before it burns out through lack of motor cooling.
Luke warm to not too hot to hold = big gas leak, same as above with more urgency.
I got a sweater for Xmas, really wanted a moaner or screamer.

I had trouble like this not long ago. It was as simple as washing the filters and no more problem. I hope this helps  ;D

Make sure the duct's are towards the ceiling when on heat so it won't interfere with the sensors. Ie the fan duct''s

Runs fine (reliably) on cooling it should run fine on heating ie not a refrigeration problem.
You need to crank the remote setting right up to 28 or so on heat, turn it on then go outside and see what the outdoor unit does.
Does the outdoor fan run? Does the compressor start? When the indoor stops, do the louvres close up or stay open?
How long have you waited for heating to start before turning it off in disgust?

All splits will have an indoor preheat cycle to prevent a gust of cold air while the system gets going, anything from 3 to 10 minutes. The fan is triggered by the indoor coil temp sensor, typically a small bead attached to a well on the copper U bends. Make sure this is still in it's well.

If the sensor does not get to temp after a certain time the unit will fault. Causes are- Short of gas, no because it runs fine on cooling, or a dud coil sensor.
Like I said earlier, if the big pipe gets hot, then gas level is not too bad, fault is probably controls.

As with CT's you get what you pay for with AC units. Daikin, Mitsubishi, Fujitsu, Panasonic and dare I say it, Samsung are all good units.
Stay away from the cheapies if you can.
