Pop Quiz :)

You are departing on a 7 night adventure to Fraser Island. How many cartons of you favorite beverage do you pack?
Considering you don't want to be left empty handed and paying exorbitant prices for your drink of choice, i am struggling with this very conundrum.

I am kind of thinking 3-4 cartons of beer, but that seems excessive for a week away with the family. Although if I break that down to a beer / day ratio, it seems OK....that is, until I load it into the back of that tug and SWMBO looks at it and say "UM, why is there no room for my stuff. "

In all honesty, this decision would be loads easier if SWMBO drank beer ;)

Maybe I need to substitute a carton for a square bear and coke  :cheers:

For a week camping I take 3 bottles of the Square Bear and 6 x 24 cans for mixers LOL so thecnically that is more than you  :cheers:

I would probably take the same amount of beer and a bottle of JD as a back up, SHMBO drinks scotch so I'm sure there will be enough coke packed.

I worked on Cliff's tour once. He allowed a carton of beer and a bottle of Rum per person per day.

3cartons = 72 beers. 10 per night!!!!!!!

Seriously, are you keen to get on the piss every night?  Don't get me wrong, I love a drink or three on holidays, but 10 per day average is high, particularly if its a family gig.

I went for 7 night last year with the family, and 1 carton plus a bottle of bourbon and mixers was plenty for me.  I don't usually drink during the day on fraser when driving about - its dangerous, plus there is a full time cop on the island and over Easter there is a great chance you will be tested.

Each to their own, but I work on a carton a week on family holidays.

For 7 nights and driving during the day, I'd take a case (24) of JD & Coke, that's 3 a day...

I agree with you blokes who don't drink during the day if driving.
 To dangerous and not worth the risk of having an accident or getting caught by the local law enforcement.
Last trip we stayed 6 nights. I took 2 bottles of bourbon and came home with 1 full.
Each to there own though.

Cheers, thanks for responses.

I was merely curious as to what everyone else took on their trips.

I am not a drink driver, although if i were to do a day trip up the beach and have a bbq, then I would drink and stay under the limit.

SWMBO enjoys driving on the beach so I am fortunate enough to be able to indulge during these times.

During afternoon relaxing / dinner prep / post dinner i think it would be reasonable to have a few more.

This easily takes the daily count above 6 without "getting on it"

I'm with you, if you can take the three, go for it, nothing over a 5 hour window, from say 4 to 9  to have your 7 or so and be relatively sober.    Which hits the 2 cartons easily. 

If room is tight throw in  a square bear.....

I know theres not a great choice but heaps easier to get rid of and less prone to breaking when you hit a washout or a hole.

Not excessive at all  :cheers: :cheers: You'll pay 70 bucks for a case of XXXX, well that was a long time ago, maybe more now.

approx 1 beer per hour and your still safe to drive so if you take 7 cartons of 24 cans you will be rite on the limit but not over  --  not rocket science  :police:

When camping with the family I do a block of cans (30) a week plus a cask of wine. This allows me four or five cans each day and some wine each night.

When off with the boys I leave the wine and multiply the beer by three ;D

I paid the princely sum of $120 for a carton of JB & cola at Moreton 6 years ago to calm the nerves after the dratted American scrap heap broke down & needed towing off the island. That was simply 24 x the single can price.

The average persons liver can process 1 standard drink per hour but it is also impacted by a whole lot of other factors - stress levels, body fat, height, weight, gender, whether you eat first or not, liver function etc. if you were to drink regularly for a few days or more your liver is going to work more slowly as it isn't being given a chance to rest.

Ok so it's 750kj per can is typical and you should aim for 8700kj per day from your whole diet.

So it's 750 x 24 x 6 / 7 / 8700 x 100 / 1

You're getting 177% of your daily sugar or kj intake from the cans alone :)

that is now turning it into rocket science -  not necessary - so to some it up what your saying is to keep your liver active is to continue drinking  ---   as the saying goes "an active life style is a healthy life style" so why on earth would you want to exclude the liver ??? so in answer to the original question - yes a carton a day is fine even if your sitting back relaxing at least your liver is active and staying healthy --  seriously why complicate things it all turns out quite simple

We went to Fraser for a 11 nights in Sept/Oct and I took 3 blocks of XXXX Gold (90 cans) - I didn't end up drinking them all. Some nights I had less than 9 and on the days we stayed at camp I drank more. Just be sensible about it and you should be ok.

My mate for the same trip took 9 blocks of VB (270 cans) I think he had 1/2 a block left at the end of it. He was in may car though so didn't do much driving.
