With enough horse power, sheer ignorance and a total lack of respect for your vehicle, you'll get through....

King billy I just get a bit sick a tired of people always saying that police officers were in the right when a number of times in life I have seen otherwise I worked in security for some time both monitoring and out on patrol and it left my head spinning with some of the crap I witnessed.

There are some very good police officers out there but like any workplace there are some class a dopes that do there colleagues no favours at all, nothing more then thugs throwing their weight around and I guess this is why I have lost respect.

Actually a funny thing, one of the guys I worked in security now is an officer in QLD police he was quite unstable when we worked together have no idea what the standards are to get in but they cant be real high if they let him in.

You have a valid point here.  Cops and ex cops stand up for each other as a matter of culture so you will tend to see this on forums such as this.  It is probably the first thing you learn and can lead to issues, both in inappropriate behaviour and sometimes backing a DH.

In the general duties stream it is one in all in even if the 'in' may not be right at the time.  Thats for discussion later.  This culture has started to change maybe for good, maybe not.  A good example is working with teams that do the nite club alcohol districts.  On a normal night a team of three would probably lock up six drunks, break up three fights and have a couple of scuffles and arrests for resist etc.  On occasions the cop has overstepped the mark or failed to communicate or was just a DH and things go down but that is irrelevant at the time.  That is dealt with later and I have been part of giving a cop a belting over drinks for being a DH.  They tend to get weeded out pretty quickly.

Keep in mind that the upside of this is that cops actually go towards danger when others run the other way.  My wife spent 12 yrs in uniform, was a size 10, 60kg and 173cm tall and would be one of the first in wherever whenever.  In all my time I saw one cop show cowardice and that was dealt with later on big time.  So every cop has my respect simply for signing up, turning up and doing their best.

I try to temper this a bit but I think I still back the cop first in my mind before thinking it through.  The worst thing IMO is the arming up of cops.  On the Gold Coast you would swear they were policing Northern Ireland.  There is no way they can do 'community policing' effectively with the myriad of weapons they carry.  You get no respect through intimidation.

Conversely, their are members on here that are anti police and most of their comments are pretty dopey.  I love the legal argument and making them look ignorant as this is my thing from a work perspective.

The other thing that makes me annoyed is that we have the greatest legal system around.  If you get fined by a cop it is simply a notice of belief. The cop believes you have committed an offence and it is up to you whether to contest it.  You can have it heard before a court and if its as stupid as you say it is, or unlawful, then the magistrate will determine it.

If these people had as big a set of balls as their whinging mouth and went to court then they would earn my respect.  But to quote Mr Soprano "they whinge, and moan, and bitch" and cry to their mates all the while twisting what really happened.

I booked a bloke for the offence of 'differing candela'.  He was a DH and I pissed myself laughing as I left.  He could have contested it but didn't.  Usual full of mouth, did nothing.

And heres a tip.  Traffic cops are not getting up quotas, revenue raising or any of the other crap.  They actually believe what they are doing is saving lives.  Sometimes they may overstep the mark - go to court and make them look stupid if they did.  Had it done to me once.

be safe

No probs with plod doing their job without fear or favour dazzler but  just the laws they have to police with the crazy penalties. Now recall Josh Philip cops $20k all up first offence for being within 300M of whales (if he'd been speeding around swimmers within 200M of Adelaide shores he'd have faced an expiation fee of $250 plus VOC levy).

Now here's what you cop for being a pissed sheila and knocking a cyclist off their bike-

and Gillard and her Misogyny Maidens reckon Oz is riddled with misogyny? You should be sacked instantly Ms Bampton just like footballers and rugby players stepping out of line.

I agree 100%.  Fines are getting stupid.  The silliest thing I came across was the paranoia  in NSW over radar detectors.  There were huge fines for having them and some compounding fine for not handing it in if caught when in actual fact they were great simply because if you used radar correctly they were useless and made it easier to catch them.

Yea, we put that up for all of the southerners who keep coming here.  It is real bad up here, weather is crap, far too dear to live here, and laws are real bad, your politicians are much better.  Our beaches are terrible, no rain forests left, no where to go camping, no free camps like in Victoria.  Best you guys just stay where you are.  ;D   Kevin
