I bought a shipping container, stored most of our stuff in that. when I opened it nearly 2 years later it was like I had only put the stuff in the day earlier. very little dust, no ant or mouse problem. Container cost approx $2400, $200 approx for delivery cos it was a backload. that was to the country so thats pretty good.
I bought another when I got home for $900 had to fix it up and weld up a few holes in the roof and repaint it. that was going to be used for a workshop or big tool box while I was on a rented property, worked well. moved it into town and also moved the first one, then when I was about to build the workshop years later had them both moved again out of my way.
I sold them both for about $3600 I worked out that I was out of pocket about $500 for a total of 10 years of container owning. Not bad hey. Had I not moved them so much I would have broken even or come out in front. But hey, cant complain about $500 as they were both very uselful..
so find a block of land and BUY a shipping container. a 40footer isnt as easy to pack, so buy 2 20 footers if you need lots of space. But as someone said earlier, sell as much of the crap that will date or you think might not last much longer. Like fridge TV pcs etc..
