bugger it.
« on: October 22, 2013, 06:19:33 PM »
OK guys so I have been driving around the patrol in its current form for a while now and the inevitable has finally happened.
I got pulled over by the highway patrol. Grrrrrrrr

So after the licence check Mr police officer asked me to turn my lights on.
Yep, hid's are in there. Strike one.
Then asks me the purpose of the roof lights.
Um off road lights I say?.....
Nope as they are forward facing I have too many on there.
So two have to come off.
Anyway I get chatting to him about the led light Bars, suffice to say as a warning to those in Victoria. They must be mounted in pairs, and still no more than 6 forward facing.
Strike two.

Even though there is no way to turn them on without physically Getting out of the car and putting a fuse in. Still not good enough.

So unfortunately in regards to the longer light bars, the new laws in Queensland still haven't made it down to us poor Mexicans.

Then to top it off, turns out my lights aren't allowed to protrude past the bull bar???
As I have light force blitz 240's on there and that's how they mount that was strike three.
So to get around that one I need to get some more of those rubber pads for the bull bar.

So all in all really polite, helpful Mr plod. I did get a defect notice of some sort, but no fines or points.
I have a week to rectify and then just take it to Vic roads and all done and dusted.

So moral of this story (in Victoria anyway  >:D )
* no HID's (which I knew but tried my luck) lol
* no more than 6 forward facing lights ( if you have h4 globes they are counted as one per side )
* must be mounted in pairs
 And last but not least
* work lights are not required to be in pairs on the rear of the car.

Cheers

Got pulled over about a year ago for a random check. Seen my battery monitoring gauge on the dash, kindly asked if I had the time to show him my dual battery system. Sure!
Asked many questions about my suspension,UHF and other mods.  Thanked me for my time and advice Nice copper! :police:

I towed a trailer around for months with no number plate on the rear, but it was well painted and new LED lights all working well..

anyway eventually got pulled over (By a mansfield highway copper) and I got a $141 fine and 3 points.

3 points, it wasnt a dangerous or unsafe... I really dont think it needed 3 points..

Anyway I thought he would let me off with a fine.. ohh well.. SOld that trailer eventually and made my own that needs to be registered.

ohh well..

Sounds like you got off lightly! It's $361 for having a vehicle that doesn't comply with the standards of registration.

Why was it important to note that he was from Mansfield Highway Patrol?

That's not how it works. It's either a warning or a PIN - Police can't just decide to part penalise  ???

Edit: Own/Use Unreg Trailer is $144; but no demerit points, so I don't see how that works???   :-\

You do realise that it that the members performing on camera weren't from HWP?

But let's not let any facts get in the way of a good story....

Always been the case. Some people with the light bars are putting tape in the center to "split" the light into 2, thinking that will get them away with it.

Oh and apparently lights in pairs are supposed to be both spot or both spread... But then Hella sells Rally 4000's from memory in packs 1 of each ???

But the sad thing everytime the cop sees your car now, he thinks easy $$$ :(

The fitting of 'additional headlights' (white light facing forward) must be between 500mm and 1400mm from the ground/road surface (RS(Veh)Regs 2009, Sch2, Section 78.4 (a) & (b).

Section 80 - "If 2 or more additional headlights are fitted....the additional headlights must as far as possible be fitted in pairs."

My interpretation is that you can have a single LED light bar on your bullbar providing you have two other driving lights fitted and it isn't possible to fit a second LED bar. The LED bar must still be within 500mm & 1400mm from the road surface. It must also either dip or turn off when low beam is selected.

Roof mounting is too high to comply. If is up there and doesn't work then that's another issue.

My 2c....and no demerit points worth  ;D

Apparently they have some *special* name from the factory that means they are considered legal...

Agree Lost - I think herevwas an issue with the Limited Edition Tomb Raider Landy too, may have even had a recall to cover or disconnect the roof lights.

The RS(veh)Rs that I quoted are current for Vic. Not to say they're always abided by...  :-*

the problem is every single donut man interprets it differently.. you can drive around for 5 yrs without an issue, then one new glaized will come to down and dick you even though his counterpart says dont worry bout it.
That goes for so many parts/accessories and things :(

You could buy a Jeep with roof lights from the factory, but that model only lasted a year or so - and for the Australian market the roof bar only had two lights instead of the original four in the US, which made it look like Mickey Mouse..

78.4 only refers to low beam headlights. So no height restriction on high beam.

Hence why this is legal

Must quote this to my bro with the Kermit 'Candy' car.  Will be interesting to get his '2c' worth.

As for Mansfield, etc, as I understand it the 'TOG' are now a whole of state show, operating all over the place, rather than regional as previously.
