New to scene
« on: October 09, 2013, 06:27:04 PM »
G'day
I'm just looking at getting into the camper trailer scene with my wife and two young children. I have been looking for a few months now for a soft floor camper with a budget of $6000. I would only be towing with a cx9 so something full off road isn't really required.  I would like to stay away from the Chinese imports and possibly buy a used camper. I will keep an eye out on the classifieds. I would appreciate any thoughts or input on what I should look for in a camper or what I should stay clear of.
Cheers
Brett.

Welcome to myswag Brett, look for good Aussie canvas and fully welded not bolted together trailer. Don't know where you are but Jason makes a good camper around your price range http://www.aussiejayscampers.com/. That said there are some great 2nd hand campers in the classifieds like this http://www.myswag.org/index.php?topic=30317

Welcome to MySwag Spence. If you live in one of the bigger cities, use gumtree and have a good look around at the second hand market to see what $6000 will buy. There are plenty of CT's for sale it is just a matter of looking around at what they have to offer. You need to decide on a couple of things. Big tent and annexe area or average size.  Fittings to carry fuel, gas bottles, generators? Do you want a quick setup time or doesn't it matter. Do you want a modern slide out kitchen and stove for the Mrs or will a gas hot plate suffice. Couple of things to think about mate.
See you around the forum. Muz.

Welcome to MySwag, you have the right idea, watch the classifieds and the other auction sites and see what comes up. Someone elses pride and joy can be found and then you can get out and about

Thanks everyone for your responses and great advice. D4D I forgot to mention I am on the central coast so the one you recommended from myswag classifieds is a bit to far away but if it was closer I would definitely consider it. Muz some of those things you recommended I hadn't even taken into consideration so thanks for that. I will continue to search gumtree but one thing I now know is I am addicted to this site. There is so much useful information on here and plenty of people happy to offer their opinions and ideas.
Cheers

All men dream but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds wake in the day to find that it was vanity; but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act their dream with open eyes to make it possible.

So I guess it's official, after lots of searching and more searching I picked up a Central Coast Camper off eBay. It came with everything we need from shower to engel fridge freezer so now we just need to get out and use it.  ;D
