Best towball security?

There are lots of brands out there and was wondering who uses what security to stop the trailer just growing legs and leaving?

Also what do you use while traveling and when camped ie, wheel brace camping, tow ball coupling lock while in the pub etc.

I tie the dog to the camper of a night (stops her going for a wander around) and during the day i use some solid chain through the wheels and a padlock through the hitch.

We spent 2 weeks camping on the gold coast and were away most days from 10am till 6-7pm all we did was padlock everything, we had the luck of an older couple next to us for most of the 2 weeks who kept an eye on things for us while we were out.

Insurance helps ease the mind too, we were told just not to leave anything of value like laptops or anything of the sorts, we didnt have a fridge till just a few weeks ago so now we are also looking into ways to secure it, thinking of getting some of GG's security cables.

I lost a trailer from the street in front of my house one night.  Was fitted with a wheel clamp and a hitch lock at the time.
Have a wheel clamp on the Heaslip and a lock through the pin of the OzHitch as well.  No longer out the front of my place either.

A friend of mine was greeting ripped on his remote block so he brought 2 infrared red animal tracking cameras and busted them.

Put one near your ct for a face pic and one on the track coming in for a rego pic.

People will stop short of your campsite and walk in, so you need one up near the road for vehicle ID.

You've got your insurance but getting them busted and stamped for life, is worth the cost of the cameras.

We have a lot of security devices on ours.  Hitch lock, hefty chains - yes plural, wheel clamps, Cuda Alarm (they don't make em no more), Cattle Dog ...

"Property of Hells Angels" sticker on the drawbar   Might be enough to make the thief not take the risk and walk away.

Just hope you don't actually camp next to the real Hells Angels, or worse, a rival club...


10 chains and 10 padlocks!  Even cheap padlocks, the longer it takes the less appealing it is to a thief.

Have never locked mine and its still here.  Even left it out the front yard.  Perhaps no one wants it

It's just luck if the draw I think. I just padlock the sh1t out of everything using GG's security cables, and a hitch pin lock for the tregg

Chain it , weld it , sit shotgun on it , if they want it its gone . Insure it & hope for the best .
The cordless angle grinder is a very handy thing available at a good or bad hardware store near the scene of the crime .

I have a product called a Nelson Lock it is brilliant but can be difficult

It weighs about 50kgs and if you can imagine a labrador body with a bull terrier head white with brown spots one blue eye one brown eye and one ear goes up and one goes down

Only issue is that he eats his body weight in food every week and if he farts in the car you are on the side of the road for half hour

i have been thinking for ages on how to lock them, including locking a couple of trailers together. but today i discovered that if i turn the couplling around i can lock it to one of the chains so as it cannot be turned back around in the usable direction...


but if i hear of more thefts in the area i might dig a hole, sink a post in some concrete and padlock it to that..

Padlock will delay theft for about 2 secs. Very easy to pick and if they have the circle type, like on the coke machines, even easier.

This seems a very good way, even just taking one and putting it on the roof rack while your camping and off exploring.

Can't say I have heard of a camper being stolen whilst camped in the bush. Gear yes, camper no.

There are lots of ways to secure a camper, the more the better as it will take longer for the person that wants the trailer and possibly more noise to alert you or neighbours. Chain up the safety chains, lock through the hitch, heavy chain and lock through wheel and around suspension, put down all the stabiliser legs, alarm, sensor light.
