What do we do with these?
« on: August 09, 2013, 05:39:08 PM »
So what do we do with these? I have two now that have only done 1 rego each. I usually get 2 out of them.

Open to suggestions.
My priority is torture them for all the times they made me stress for the first month(or 2 or 3) after rego because I hadn't updated them yet.
Or put them in a time capsule........

Lemo.

P.S one off the camper cost me 1.5Hr in a RTA in Newcastle because I had to get a reprint on holidays because I rembered the bloody thing. Would have got away with it too.

You must be mounting them in the wrong place.  Have got three renewals out of my first one I put on the CT when new. it's up front on the side of the main body, protected from rain, water spray, dust and sun by the base of the tent and side buttress. No visibility problems at all. It should do another renewal.

For one dollar, good value.

Yes, must admit the camper one had been on for a couple already, but it is under a carport, the box trailer on the other hand is in the elements.

Its not the label holder I have an issue with, its the hole in the Cub left by the mounting screw. I can just put the screw back in but that just leaves an unsightly screw head in the middle of nowhere. Another Myswag sticker may be the fix.  ;D

 :cup: Thats GOLD  :D

I've always left the label on the notice paper, cut around the label, and put that in the holder. Don't know what the  :police: would think of that but tends to make the holder last a bit longer. Being Victorian, our  :police: seem to have a better sense of humor than their NSW counterparts so might be OK here. Perhaps if I run into a Vic  :police: tomorrow some time in someones shed I'll try and get it into the conversation some how. I have always found its better to not have the label that have an expired/damaged/illegible label.

Being a vic  :police: it wouldn't be high on my priorities if you left part of the paper stuck to the sticker. It is what is written that Is important rather than the plastic colour.
Most important is that it is registered and the number plate is on.

What i would like to know is when one of us nsw people get pulled up in vic without our cars campers or bikes now not needing rego stickers, how do the vic or qld or any state know its regoed?

Im not looking forward to taking all my rego paperwork with me on all my camping trips.

I would hope (but I don't know so don't quote me) that all the systems are some what inter linked so that if a NSW cop sees a Vic or QLD registered car they can bring it up to see if it is stolen or unregistered. But given that our state governments are usually unwilling to make things easy for people who like to visit other states, I suppose it doesn't...

I know here on the border our police have the new cameras in them to check plates against the database, just wasnt sure about the other states who have not removed the need for a sticker yet.

I hear vic is going to go sticker-less in the next year or so?

I may even ring before we go camping next just to check if i need the paperwork or not.

Here's hoping. I think the need for them has gone. Plus how good will it be to not have to fight to get the old stickers off and to keep the new ones stuck!

And just like South Oz expect to see new camera's popping up everywhere and old ones being retrofitted with new cameras. It's a common sight now to see the camera's flash at an intersection when no-one is speeding, but they're catching unregistered vehicles.

This was another of my dilemmas Snow, you could be onto something with the Myswag sticker, I could have matching on both sides now.

One problem I do see with the no stickers, a previous boss I had was a bit relaxed on the renewal's and without that sticker in front of your face you wouldn't know if the vehicle you where in was registered. Now you would need an iPhone and the new app to check. Even the on my personal vehicles and trailers it was a good visual reminder when it was coming up.

If you are from a state that doesn't have rego labels and come to Victoria no problems. We can check interstate Regos most of the time.

Labels are useful to confirm that the plates and car are the same.  VIN and chassis numbers etc.
it will make things a bit harder for us sometimes. Also for reasons Lemo said. One reason for no labels is to save $

camera going off on green lights is speed not unregistered.

Cameras go off as soon as the light turns green and cars start slowly moving through the intersection, so its either catching unregistered vehicles or faulty

Hi Lemo
If they can be opened somehow, I would use them for a family photo in the car, why waste something like that.

In vic when they process your red light or speed camera fine they will issue one for unregistered. They have been using cameras that read number plates but you get pulled up by a policeman is the alarm goes off. It would be interesting if SA do it that way as well,

I love that comment!  However ... I have to tell you they aren't "that clear" ... they are sort of milky to look through ... but good enough for a family pic I guess.
