Go the GoPro?
« on: August 04, 2013, 10:32:09 AM »
G'day everyone, We're off to Fraser for a week or two tomorrow to visit/relax/drink a beer or two with Yogi & BooBoo and also shake down a few new campers with their new owners and at the same time I'm thinking it will be a great opportunity to grab a few action shots of the campers/suspension/performance  :cup:

Does anyone own a GoPro or recommend a similar product for this kind of photography?

Dave

P.S.. Any one is welcome to join if they like!

By all accounts, Go Pro is the way.

I've noticed on a lot of travel shows, they also use Go Pro. Set up on chest harness, helmet bracket, or on front of bonnet, or on side of car or rook rack.

Since I've been looking at them, I notice now alot of 'action' shots are taken with the go pro.

I have an AEE Magicam, comes with all the bells and whistles that the Gro Pro III Black has for half the price.

Ah ... Gopro ... that what I'm doing wrong ... I bought a pogo ... couldn't find a shutter button and the image stabilization is nonexistent.

I have a kogan video camera that i have had for over 3years i think, While the vision is very very good quality, it only films in MOV format. So its hard to view on a pc and share.. But can upload to you tube and view them that way..

Its very easy to use and the battery lasts ages.

I've just been putting a couple of clips together from our trip this year, I haven't had the GoPro very long.  I find it great, with the ability to control it from my iPhone and iPad.
The new firmware update now allows me to view and play back videos on my phone, copy to the phone and email.

Now that is a neat trick, will it work with android you think?
How is the connection made, bluetooth?

Not sure about android.
The Gopro connects via WiFi to the iPhone/iPad with the Gopro app.

Yes works with Android. That is what I use. Uses wifi. The camera creates the network point and you connect using wifi

Dont just think Go Pro is the only way to go. It seems to be a bit like Iphones. There are much more smart phones out there that are just as good cheaper but apple just market their product very well. Same as Go Pro. Sony also make good action cams, and theres also Contour who are pretty much a direct competitor to Go Pro. I've got the Contour Roam2 but the more expensive Contour plus has wifi and I think gps.
So have a look around and decide how  you'll be using it because they all do things a bit different.

I have one of the contours and so far I'm very happy with it.

Ever since GoPro had that little litigation spat with Digitalrev they have joined Apple on my 'never to buy' list.   Technically they are ok though.

This was published last week, so should be quite timely and current for you:

http://gearpatrol.com/2013/07/31/bes-action-cameras/

I've only heard good things about the GoPro and the Contour cameras.

I will not be held responsible for any other purchases that you may make after browsing around the rest of that site.

Cheers,
Matto :)

PS - you suck. Wish I was going to fraser, instead of sitting at my desk. Thanks for rubbing it in. No doubt in a fortnight's time you'll be uploading all this cool footage of the island. Bastards.
