I sometimes commute on a BMWF700GS but as others have mentioned there are no real savings over commuting in a small car. The fuel used is around 5 litres per 100k which is the same as the Wifes i30 diesel so thats not a saving unless you commute in a V8. For me it works out ok as there is free parking for bikes at work while its $12 a day for cars. I do find my self jumping on the train more these days though as the Sydney traffic is getting worse and its no fun on a bike in really heavy traffic, especially on a stinking hot day.
Cheers
Mark

Ha ha you could always buy one of these, the black paint will give you lots of cred on the goldie
Ahh the plastic pig!  I drove one years ago and spent more time on two wheels than three, deadly on the bends they are and bikes are safer than these  ;D

Yea that was Pre Kids... so 1998... Coxy still has his with 200,000 on the clock.

Whatever happened to Spiders one? I miss mine :'(

Spider sold Grumpy to a guy named Scott and I used to see it commuting across the Anzac Bridge regularly... but Grumpy ended up being written off, can't remember the circumstances. He's still riding Peter Seymours old bike after buying it back when he realised he should never have sold it :)

Steve Ingram has a bunch of classic bikes now (including a few VFs and some real old Hondas) and a Blackbird as his regular ride. He lives 20 mins from me but we're both flat out with our kids - he has FOUR with his new missus - so we don't catch up very often.

That question would also depend on what cost you are talking about.  We have had some people through here that have been on motorcycles on the CSR and the Tanami, and belive me, from the way they have been walking, the roads and tracks have taken a toll on their backs.  That is a price I would not pay.

Dazzler,

Can you get one of these in Aus yet?

That would be a fantastic commuter.

Cheers,
Matto :)

in QLD rego on a single seat bike is way cheap, so if just commuting for yourself look into that as a option in buying a bike.

in your bike choice- looks like you want your cake and eat it as well.

justify that you need another vehicle, as it will be cheaper- that only works on a cheap 250cc, but then that won't be any fun up around Tambourine etc on the weekends .

seriously seems like more of a life style thing, you still have the option if wet to use the car.....

oh and I admit that I have 2 cars and a bike for when the mood takes me
Single seat Ducati, costs around $1000/ year in rego, insurance and misc maintanance (oils filters) to sit in the shed + ~$500 in fuel, might do around 5,000km/s year so every second year tyres and service (of approx $1600) not every bike costs as much to run and maintain  :-[

Nice pics Lost :)

Having seen those injuries in person while you were still laid up, I can say that the photos don't come close to showing the reality. But that was a pretty extreme crash you experienced. Anyway, you were sure enjoying the 'button' when Will and I dropped in to see you :)

Those wounds look like they are a week or two down the track Lost.

My brother was t-boned by an F100 truck when he was 16 and almost lost his leg. Initially his leg was black as the ace of spades from the ankle to the groin and swollen to twice its normal size. The fibula was crushed beyond repair and had about a 4 inch length of it removed, it now just floats around inside his calf. He was one of the earliest patients to use a fixator in Australia.

yea, I was that smashed on that Shit I had to self administer, that I didn't even know I had it... :(

When I had 2 control thingys, when thought I was pressing the button for the drugs I was buzzing the nurse and vice versa... never been so out of control in my life... Theres a whole series of stories when I was hallucinating about dreams of killer wizards and a pub in the blue mountains, but that's a story for another day. I was actually terrified to go to sleep... :D
