Cost of beer
« on: June 29, 2013, 10:13:23 PM »
Sitting here at the top of the cape is thirsty work, I didn't buy an extra carton in Weipa as I thought $55 for a 30 can slab of XXXX Gold was a little pricey.  bugger me, run out at Loyalty Beach and its $65 here, think I'll be dry untill I reach civilisation again.

Would like to  but I've run out!

~$30 for a 6 pack Alice Spring Resort and camping area.  No carton sales.  I'm used to liquor accord and restrictions but was not ready for this. Put myself on rations then was happy to pay $55 takeaway prices for a block of midstrength in Leonora.

Remember the 6 P's .... Prior Preparation Prevents Piss Poor Performance.  If you're camping you NEED a beer after a hard days *something*.

A bit in the high side, but that alternative is NO BEER!!!

Crack open the wallet & spend the $65,  I promise you won't spill a drop & it will taste wonderful.

$30 at Alice resort should be a bargin these days!  it was $28 or $29 when I was there in 2006.

and in your case the 6 P's should be Prior Preparation Prevents Poor Piss Prices...

Think you should be able to find some stinging nettle plants up there, whip up a quick brew of stinging nettle beer ..
http://foragedfoods.co.uk/stinging-nettle-beer/
Bugger, can you get some hops from some where .?
Had an army officer that used to brew nettle beer at the start of some of our exercises, wasnt to bad by the end of them either .LOL.
Come on its once every so often if not a life time you get to go to the Cape, So spend up and enjoy it .

Its enough to make you want to stop drinking, go tea total.............. Perhaps.

Its enough for me, buggered if I would be that desperate for an over priced beer.
Why do people ask "What the hell were you thinking?"
Obviously I was thinking I was going to get away with it and not have to explain it....

Actually, at my local bottlo, the imported quality beer, (German) is cheaper than the local brew.

It's probably fake. The small print on the bottle will say something like - Brewed Under Licence by Fosters/CUB/Lion Nathan etc
Generic mega-swill in a foreign bottle. Brands infected with BUL Shit:
  • Stella
  • Becks
  • Kronenburg
  • Peroni
  • Kingfisher
  • Grolsch
plus loads more. Should be illegal, the beer tastes nothing like the one it is masquerading as.

Run Out Of B,,,,,,,,,,, I can't even bring myself to say the word , When you decide to travel do it properly . There are some that wouldn't leave home without Min of 6 Slabs  purchased at your local & top up on the way , as you must .
The worst l payed was $75 for a cold block at the Innaminka Pub , on the way home from Birdsville . But if you can't afford it stay home
 Oh Yearrrr

When we did the Cape years ago, due to the savings we bought a carton back for me and a cask of wine for the wife from Thursday Island after a day tour.

Just talking to the guy who delivers our water, he said he used to pay 16c per pot at the golf club after 18 holes on a Saturday. Now he pays $3.80. Inflation is a killer....

I remember a trip to a nightclub in Singapore about 15 years ago.  At the time the Singa dollar and our dollar was exactly the same

I asked for a bourbon and coke,
barman says do you want the house bourbon or JB or JD?.
I asked how much extra for the JB?,
he says only $1.00.
I said yeah mate I will have the JB and coke.

He pours the drink and says $18.50 thanks.
I said how much for the house bourbon?
He says $17.50.
Obviously didnt get stuck in to the drinks that night.

I recall early 70's, just after a strike, beer went up from 17 cents to 23 cents a pot.
To a man, the whole pub said, "That's it, I will never drink again"
and here we are

One of the few good things about getting old is remembering when beer used to be the working man's drink.

Now it's the stockbroker's drink.

Cheers, Tony
