Fire Danger Ratings
« on: January 07, 2013, 05:33:11 PM »
The RFS has issued a catastrophic fire danger tomorrow.
State-wide TOTAL FIRE BAN declared for Tuesday 8 January 2013
Current Fires and Incidents
Fire Danger Ratings
NSW facing worst fire danger day
Also State Forests are closed Too.
I guess other states would be the same.
It's as dry as a pommies Shout  ;D
After a couple of very wet years, we now have one of the driest and it doesn't look like it's going to rain anytime soon.
The cracks in the ground around the house are big enough to lose a golf ball down.
It's going to be a long hot summer for the guys fighting these fires.
Take care guys and thanks for your effort.

Hey BHG, No worries Mate go for it.
You may have to copy the links for the actually web sites.
Search on FB for the RFS page and like it, they post updates regularly from around the state, I would think other states would have a similar page. A great way to keep informed of developments and out breaks.
We headed to Lismore Saturday for the Monster Trucks at the Speedway, on our return there had been a fire on the Summerland H/way at the Pringles way intersection, it was still smouldering on our return yesterday afternoon.
I think I may have to cancel my next Day Trip later in the month if we don't get any rain soon. Last month was dry enough, better to be safe than sorry.
D4D, yeah, not looking pretty at all.

got friends heading home from the Shoalhaven area in the morn...
The whole Shoalhaven area has been declared   "catastrophic" now thats scary. think Sydney and surounds will be very close to this rating also.
Sydney has a forcast of 43, we are at the foot of the Blue mountains and as a rule we are around 4 degs higher in temps than Sydney itself.
So i hope they got it Wrong. :-[

Yeah, you guys down south are going to get a lot warmer than us up here around Grafton way.
41c tops on Wednesday, with an over night of 24c, at lest we don't have the high humidity atm.
The grass crackles under foot, haven't touched it with a mower for over 4 weeks now I'd guess.
I was hoping to have a few cook ups these holidays with the kids, oh well, next holidays hey.

Sydney has been delared a FDR of Extreme. Extract below from the CFU website;

Bushfire Danger across NSW - Tues 8 Jan – A message from the FRNSW Commissioner
Mon, 01/07/2013 - 15:32 — admin

Tomorrow is Tuesday 8 January…exactly 19 years to the day since Sydney suffered major property losses and loss of life at Como and Jannali, Lane Cove National Park and Warringah.

Tomorrow is forecast to be a day of widespread Severe, Extreme and Catastrophic bushfire danger. The South Coast and Shoalhaven areas are expecting to experience Catastrophic (Fire Danger Index over 100) conditions, and most of Sydney, the Central Coast and Hunter are forecast to be Extreme (over 75).

Very high temperatures, very low humidity, and strong gusty winds are predicted across most of the state. This follows a very dry December that has elevated soil and fuel dryness, and grassland fuel levels are very high in the west of the state due to several years of above average rainfall and floods.

The Commissioner of the RFS, Shane Fitzsimmons and I have been in constant contact in recent days and share grave concerns about the potential for loss of life and property tomorrow. This is exacerbated by the fact that there have been numerous fires caused by lightning over the last couple of days in the west and south west of NSW, and it is unlikely that all of these will be contained before tomorrow. Indeed, more dry thunderstorms are likely this evening.

It is about 10 years since we last faced such conditions, and unfortunately it is almost certain that there will be major outbreaks tomorrow.

Be ready to make your decisions and act on your Bushfire Survival Plan. Be sure to monitor the media and the RFS website or download the Fires Near Me App.

As we live right on the edge of a valley in a National Park, we have activated our Bushfire Survival Plan.
I'm just hoping we get nothing but a hot day and the CFU doesn't get activated.
Good luck to all the RFS volunteers as well.

Cheers

go to the mall for the day

This!

and I can't stress it enough.  Leave early and that means tonight or at sparrows fart in the morning.

We were about 8-10k's from the Black Saturday fires, had the wind not changed when it did it would have been on us in less that 20 minutes.  We had family, friends and acquaintances who either lost everything, had close calls (life and house wise) or sadly worse...

Unless you have a fire shelter and a well drilled fire plan, check your insurance policy, grab your personal effects and go somewhere safe for the day.

Probably have the rangers move them on, yeah I know some would of paid in advance and for a longer stay, I guess they will have to work that out later for their refunds, as long as people are safe.

Yep, many are in effected areas.
I just hope people take notice of them and don't decide to be heroes.
Take care guys.
Edit, Just thought I would add a pic of the fires in NSW only.
