There are many reports of this being a great spot, but we can't bring ourselves to go there - we live just 8 km away! Although at a somewhat higher altitude, at 600m, in the hills East of that site, in a locality called Bellthorpe. And that 8km is as the crow flies; by road it would be about 50 km, a fair bit of it on dirt, to get down to the D'Aguilar Hwy and then back up to Sandy Creek. We love our rainforest block, and this part of Qld, but so far we have gone a bit further before setting up our CT.
For only just over 100km from Brisbane, this area has a lot of inaccessible bushland within the Bellthorpe National Park and the Conondale National Park. But there is next to no opportunity for CTs to stay in the hills, and few tracks for walkers either, with the Conondale Great Walk the main exception (and no, we haven't done it). So the Sandy Creek camp ground is about your only opportunity at the South end to experience the area, with the Kenilworth area on the North side and Peachtrees on the West side being the other opportunities. Happy to help with info about the area and access if asked.
Cheers
