Weber Question

Question for the weber gurus.
I have a weber q(100).
Is it possible to buy the electronic ignition that it fitted to the new model baby q and retro fit it to my baby a replacing the piezo ignition?

Any thoughts ?

Not really sure mate but would also like to know the answer. The ignition on my 200 is the only thing that let's it down :(

It would be interesting to compare the cost of the ignition system to selling off your Q 100 and putting in a few extra dollars and updating to a new Q 100 EAU and you would get the higher lid and thermometer in the package as well.

parts for them seem expensive to me, to get a Q200 with the higher lid and thermometer is $10 extra above the basic model, to buy the higher lid for the basic model as an upgrade  is around $160

That's because the Weber distributor in Australia has a monopoly on supply. If you try to buy Weber products via Amazon for example, which are generally much cheaper than what you can purchase parts for in OZ, purchases by aussies are not allowed. The Weber distributor is located here in Adelaide, even then, they will only sell through retail outlets such as BBQ's Galore, not directly to the public.

get an Aldi one!  My pizeo still works, and a standard pizza stone fits inside!! Ya dont have to buy a special weber one.

I had a child related disappearing act with our igniter on the 220 - one decided to take it into the backyard no matter how much we looked we couldn't see it - a nice email enquiring how to get a new one they sent us on free of charge but by the time they sent it had found ours sitting upside down in the grass - still working so we have a spare emergency one if they ever dare touch it when we leave it in.

I was unfortunately stuck with getting the traditional weber baby 100 as I had bbq galore vouchers :-(
Would of liked the bigger lid and electronic ignition but couldn't.

So far it has done about 4 kilos of steak, 2 kilos of bacon, 12 toasted sandwiches for lunch and 4 pizzas tonight. Must buy another couple of pizza trays.

One question how do you clean the pizza stone?

really? we are hard pressed to think why we would use our camp ovens again?? I acknowledge it is nice sitting around the fire while your roast is sizzling away near you but if you can get past that aspect, the Baby Q does everything our camp ovens do except it is cleaner, easier, more predictable and dont need a fire or heat beads.......am I missing something?? :) Taste perhaps? Aussie tradition?

We looked at getting a Q. They look very good, but they take up a lot of space.
We carry a camp oven, so decided to give one of these a try......works well.....

The answer to the original question is "YES" and its also possible to swap the lids with the 120 model. Same goes for Q200 with Q220.

don't use soapy water, or wash it. Just scrape clean, maybe a wipe down with damp cloth, but all's good. It all adds to the flavour. Easy.
Why do people ask "What the hell were you thinking?"
Obviously I was thinking I was going to get away with it and not have to explain it....

Congratulations on your purchases Nomad and DannyG.  Agree with your comments.  We love our babyq.  It's even replaced the old 4 burner at home.

Making the gravy after the meat is cooked - all those yummy juices
Damper - The Webber will burn the bottom
Nice casserole
Roast Pork with crackling - Need hot coals on top

I dunno, I have both and still take both - love the Q with out a doubt. But a leg of Lamb cooked in the camp oven is still nicer, more tender than on the BBQ IMO. It's a bit more like pressure cooker in that more of the juice is kept in.

These are my opinions and no opinions were hurt in the making of mine ;D

cooking in the weber takes practise.
It's is a case of using either Alfoil to remove the direct heat or the pizza stone to cook on (crumbed & seasoned chicken wings taste beautiful like this)
Also the trivet and a cake tins
in some cases I use a combination of these items
It's also good fun when theres a few friends camped up with and every meal becomes a challenge...lol but also a great learning curve.

I'm quite aware of how to cook in the Webber - thanks, I have one as well. I think your missing my point. I agree with you, you can cook  any thing in the Webber but some things are just better in certain instances. A roast will always be more moist in a sealed camp oven as it keeps the moisture in, same in fact for Damper. Your Pork looks real yummy though and the drying nature of the BBQ would suit that well. Having been a Chef I've had plenty of food challenges and I think what your doing is great and the meals you've posted Pics of look excellent. I'd rather throw the lamb in the camp oven and open t 2 hours later and eat. I think certain food is better in different devices, no right or wrong.

Anyway, not trying to take away form the good work you've done. (Actually, where are you camping next - might pop in  ;D)

My comments as your aren't an attack in any way just wanted all the right info to be available. Your statement earlier as I read it was to say the Weber couldn't do things and I wanted to show its versatility. I do agree the camp oven is always a tender & moist meal but the down side is you can't always use it, you don't have time be it kids or a late stop over or caravan park.
as for popping over for a meal, brew or ale all are always welcome any time, be it camping or home  :cheers:
