WE ARE going to Fraser. now on the 7th of Dec. i hope....
« on: October 08, 2012, 07:01:32 PM »
OK, i haven't ruled the pages out in the diary yet, but i'm close.

We are thinking of leaving friday Nov the 8th (i think that date is correct) and returning on the wednesday.

Low tide on the friday is at 9:10am, so we are planning on hitting the barge at 8am.

Returning, the wednesday low tide is about 2pm, so we have more time to pack our crap. Last time we came back at 11am and the pack up time was a bit stressful for me, because by then, the wife had the sh1ts good and proper and was swinging punches.

She doesn't hit all that hard, but is a very good shot, so after a while, ya eyes are starting to blacken, ya lips are begining to split and the kidney punches just seem to top it all off.

If anyone else is gunna be there over that time, it would be nice to catch up for an icy cold Carlton Dry.

Now, being a mowerman, weather will play a part, as wet weather will put me miles behind, but with the predictions so far, i reckon we will be a goer.

PS, with alcohol, the wife does settle down......  ;D

Hey Edz,
i'm going to get some off the bloke you recomended, but no sense getting them yet, i'll wait until 2 days before we go, like i always do.

Yes Mr. Black, them there tyre pressures will be going down and this time, the air pump can come along too.

With the weather what it is, i'm expecting the sand to be soft again.

Last week..
The southern beach was good,
Hook point was especially good if you wait about 1.5hrs after the high, no blind alleys round there this year!

The path to the cape was also good, Nkgala Rocks were at their usual, we dug a pile of travellers out of there, just need a clean run and keep the momentum up

Indian head was typically soft but we tend to avoid the ruts and go straight up the middle however there's a dead tree blocking that path atm.
So this year we used radios and went up the out track for the 1st 100 metres because it's a much smoother surface and then we cross over.
We tend to avoid taking the initial up side of the bypass because there's either usually someone in there with a drama and the tour buses and supply trucks dig big whoopdies that are more like wombat holes that can chuck you around and possibly damage something... or if you slow down there's the risk of losing momentum and getting stuck

Got a baby sitter for the 3 cats, so thats all sorted.
Starting to place work jobs around the Fraser dates, so thats getting sorted.

Time to start checking the 28 day rain forecast.

Stuff it, after some god advice, i'm going to follow Mallory Blacks advice on tyre pressures. 18 all round on da Jeep and 16 on da CT.

Spot on with the tyre pressures. Ran 18psi all round last year and never had a problem. Towed our Cape York up to Orchid Beach and into Central Station. I always go to 18psi on the beach.

I bought the ct home yesterday for a trial repack after the last trip.
(Its kept about 5 klm's away, but at least is undercover in a shed, so nice and safe)

Left a few things out we didn't use last time and then set about the best way to pack it.
Managed a much better pack job and then drew myself a diagram of it all, so when we are quickly packing up on Fraser to make the low tide around Hook Pt, the divorce word might not come up again.

Gave the ct a once over and apart from filling the water tank, we are good to go again.

Hmmm, Fraser Island, golden sandy beaches, cool cystal clear lakes, nice sunny days.... can't wait.

I sure hope the weather sticks with us again.....

Only 6 more sleeps to go......

Low tide is at 9;50am and i want to be there an hour or so before, so planning on leaving home at just before 8'00am.
That gives the ol girl a bit more beauty sleep, and heaven knows, she needs it. :D

I bet we end up leaving by 7am though, as everyone wants to get there sooner than later.

Gotta get a set of rear brake pads tossed in the Jeep on Monday, but apart from that, i think we are all good to go.

We might get some pics this time at Inskip, as we shouldn't be spending a week there digging ourselves out of the sand this time.
With all the advice we got after last time, we're gunna blitz it this time and if we don't, it won't be our fault, as we can blame everyone on here.  ;D

I'm just wishing now I'd stopped taking bookings for mowing a bit earlier, as I'm mowing until at least midday Thursday.

Hey, one question, when we bought our camper, it came with one of them big arse 20 x 30 black/silver tarps. the owner reckoned it was really hot once and he used it to cool the camper.

Will it bugger the tent material if the tarp was sitting on it in a few spots during a wind?
I was going to use some tennis balls on top of the tent pole spike thingys, but what about where the foldout internal poles are, well, internal?

Should i chuck a towel or something over those spots or would it it be OK?

There is a storm forecast for next Saturday with a good chance of rain, that day only. The seller reckoned it never leaked ever on him, but i don't wanna end up sleeping in a wet spot.

Being that the forecast says it will be a bit warmer for this trip too, i thought, if its gunna be hot and wet, it might make good sense to have it up early. (the tarp)

Hey Mr Jeepers
We wouldn't be without our big tarp!
ours fits over the entire camper with plenty of overlap
As for protectors...There are things you can buy that sit on top of the awning poles but best thing we found is to get a Yo Yo and cut it in half, drill a hole in the centre and sit that on the tent pole. They are actually the perfect shape, better than the things you buy

In mild weather we have a gap of about 250mm at the outside edge for air circulation and if it blows up we just cinch it right down to minimize the amount of wind getting underneath.

For Fraser Trips we make sure we have the larger sand pegs, spare ropes and poles

this is the last camp setup, stood up to 20+ knots OK with extra poles and ropes added

Well worth the effort to set up for shade and weatherproofing

Hey MB,

I bought some tennis balls yesterday and poked a hole in 'em to use on the top of the poles.

We've not used the tarp before (Only used the CT once so far) but i want to get it up this time so its not too hot.
It should cover the entire set up easy.
Yeah yeah, will get pics of it, i know the drill.

Mrs Jeepers picked up a few bits yesterday, a carton of Carlton Dry, a bottle of Tia Maria, a bottle of coconut rum and we've got 2 bottles of red to chuck in as well, but as its only 6 days/5nights, she didn't want to go silly.

Should be enough to give her the second hand dressing table syndrome though.
You know, when the finish is faded and cracked, the legs are all wobbly and the draws are loose. (THAT'S MY KIND OF GIRL)

Only 5 sleeps now.

P!ssed off at the moment too, about to give the ol girl a kick in the guts to get her up to go boating and we have a f@#*ing storm about to hit.

Deadset, if it was raining gold nuggetts, i'd get hit in the head with dogShit.
