New Tyres for the 76, which way to go?

Well the new truck is here and she will need new shoes. The oem tyres are Road Slippers(grippers)
I have decided that we will get Procomps Extreme or Muddies. I have Procomp A/T on the Prado and very happy. 19000kms around the Tanami,GRR,Savannah Way etc. (PRADO FOR SALE) Now the issue, do I go 285/75/16 or 265/75/16?
Fuel consumption up or down? Performance? Etc.
And yes the CT which I don't have yet will have to wear the same shoes. AS,AORC or CC

265, but my bloke in Eltham suggested the 285s and and I don't think he takes kickbacks from the distributor lol. Don't know why he suggested it.

I would go up a size if they will fit, it will be a bit slower of the mark but its not that noticeable especially with you V8. When I did the last swap with a new car they gave me a great discount as they were able to on sell the rubber which came of the car as it had not had any use.

Trouble is that he is not a tyre dealer and he probably won't be able to flog them off to a customer. I was going to use the mob in Richmond but as D4D has said in a few posts back the availability of KM2s is non exsistent. That was my original tyre I was going to buy. I'll ring them again and see. The Toyota dealer couldn't get the BFG.

285 is 30mm bigger diameter and 15mm wider than the 265, sounds like a good option to me.

Just make sure your speedo is accurate and doesn't read slow. I went up a similar measurement in the Prado and the speedo is spot on.

+1. I love my KM2's, but I understand they're hard to get at the moment. I have nothing against ProComps either, just no personal experience. I'd run them, though.

The ExPo guys in the states like to run a skinnier tyre than we seem to use. They site better fuel economy and driving characteristics as the main reasons.

285's wouldn't be legal in QLD (+15mm max), but if you can run them down your way, go for it.

Thats strange, I thought Benalla Toyota took over the running of the Bridgestone Dealer just up the road a month or so ago. I may be wrong, but I think there is a connection there.

In all reality unless your doing some harder 4wding, stick with the 265's. Also maybe easier to get in remote areas if thats a concern.

Why not stick with those for a while, and get some value out of them. Your not heading to the middle of nowhere anytime soon... So round town they should be ok. I believe your next big trip is next yr, hold off until your leaving, then go on fresh new rubber for the trip.

If your set on getting Procomp wait till they have a buy 3 get 1 free sale, which I've never understood as 90% of people need 5 tyres. Last time I priced procomps they were poison expensive.

BFG only supply certain dealers, same as many tyre companies. So, if you want them from your favourite Dealer, they may have to buy them from another dealer, thus the price isnt that flash...

Take a good look at the MTR's.. This is my 4th or 5th set, over 2 cars...Although this is my first in the new pattern and only had them a few, so wont comment on them, but  so far. And the place in Richmond can get them

What size tyres are on your trailer?? Just something to think about.

They're legal in VIC as they're only 30mm larger

Dunno if you're interested, but I've got 5-265/75x16 KM2's. They've had trailer use only (see sig pic below). 4 have min 12.5mm tread at centre, and 1 has never been roaded. No cuts, chips, punctures etc.

I've changed to 285's to match the car, and these are now doing nothing in my shed. They're currently on Patrol rims, but that could be fixed.......

yea, it was just he wanted em, so if they are all that are available..

These joints must be importing from USA privately, cause the importing company cant supply.. maybe Tirerack are doing more than they say!

I agree, but it's better than the $420 I was quoted when I started ringing around...........
