Hi all!
« on: August 10, 2012, 07:14:28 PM »
Hello all,

Just joined the forum to get some more insight to the camper world. We own a new to us (2009) jayco flamingo that I have kitted out with plenty if the things that will make our future trips comfy.

This weekend is only the third time we will be using it since we bought it 10 weeks ago. After only owning it for 2 weeks we were rear ended by a truck causing a $15k repair bill and narrowly avoided a write off!

Having a new baby, we were sick of packing up tents most weekends. We are keen water skiers and tow the boat behind my car and the camper behind the wife's car most weekends over summer. Less pack up time with the camper means more time on the water for us now.

This is the second caravan forum that I have stumbled across and everyone appears more receptive then other forums I have seen of late

Anyway, hopefully I can get something out I this site and offer some advise in return

Andrew

Welcome to the Forum Andrew, good to hear that the camper got fixed up, not a good way to start out. A great way to travel with camper and boat and the screaming kids in the other car ;D

That's the thing, they wanted to write it off but I had a a lot to lose.

I have receipts for $11.5k worth of accessories and labour for things that I had added/installed in the first two weeks. The van was bare bones when I bought it as it was mostly used on powered sites. The van was also that new that I had not updated my policy to reflect the accessories added. Therefore I stood to have the whole lot taken from me. With a lot of arguing, we got it over the line and the rebuild is of outstanding quality. Needless to say, my insurance policy has now been updated!!

G'day Andrew and welcome!

Alot of us are probably guilty of not updating our insurance as the mod process gets up and running, might go make the call now
