Favorite country pubs
Conargo Pub.  Had some great 'Sunday Sessions' there.
Kevington Pub.  Good pitstop for those 4WD/motorbike weekends,

Favorite 'party' pubs
The Espy.  Greatest live music pub ever!
The Moosehead in Carlton.  $2 Crownie night back in the 90's was the best!

The local
St Andrews.  If the locals on the front verandah don't keep you amused, the current owners antics will...

Aaaaaaah, some of my favourite watering holes have been mentioned - Daly Waters, the Humpty Doo, the Walkabout Creek Hotel (from Crocodile Dundee fame) at McKinlay, the Blue Heeler at Kynuna, but there is one other that has not been mentioned - the Wellshot Hotel at Ilfracombe.  Great place.

The Hungerford pub, at the NSW/QLD border crossing when travelling from Tiboorburra to Cunnamulla.  Don't know about the beer but they cooked us an awesome breakfast.
Camping is great as long as the mattress is inner spring!

In Tilba is the Dromadary Hotel

In Berrima is the Surveyor General Inn

Claims Australia's oldest continuously licensed Inn. The Inn was built by William Harper in 1834 licensed in 1835 and was handed over to his son, James Harper in 1835 who became the first publican. License No. 109385

Ranks with New South Wales earliest Pubs.

Brilliant building with original sandstone and woodwork. The history and the superb steaks make the Inn well worth the slight detour.

The Historic O'Connell Hotel, never missed a night here when going to the Bathurst Bike races, opened in 1865, is in the hamlet of O'Connell, half-way between Oberon and Bathurst. ;D

And of coarse

Hero Of Waterloo, Oldest Pub in Australia, but not continualy licenced The Rocks Sydney

The Lord Nelson, has it's own brewery, 3 sheets is an outstanding beer. The Rocks Sydney

Star Hotel Newcastle, sadly closed

The George in Newcastle.

Just to name a few.

Baz.

Victoria hotel at Moonan Flat

My great grandmother built that pub. Great spot.

I love the Dromedary at Central Tilba too, but my personal favourite is the George IV Inn in Picton NSW (RIP Geoffrey).

This looks like a good topic for a collaborative google map  "Myswag Iconic Pubs" where we can all place a marker on our favourite pubs. I for one would keep a close eye on it when I was travelling. Nothing like finding a genuine pub for a coldie and and a chat to the locals.

I agree.
Is it possible for an interactive map?
Why do people ask "What the hell were you thinking?"
Obviously I was thinking I was going to get away with it and not have to explain it....

Yungabarra Hotel in the Atherton Tablelands.

Mr Andrews used to be the publican when I went to school there.  His daughter and I were best mates.  There are places in that pub that the locals and the visitors don't get to see.

It's amongst my fav's, but I loved The Blue Heeler @ Kynuna (the best pub in the world I reckon), The Hivesville Hotel @ Hivesville, there's one of the 5 Ways in NT that was pretty special, and one in Launceston that served a meal to die for!!  Having a drinking family that also camped, I've been to some pretty interesting pubs Australia wide.

Stayed at the Yungaburra in '95. My wife used to rave to me about camping at Lake Tinaroo when she was a child. We were staying at my wife's grandparent's house in Ayr, drove to Edmonton and stayed in a cheap motel, and based from there we drove everywhere we could think of. Everytime we saw a sign on the road that said 'Waterfall ->' we would detour and have a look. Still have video of our drive to Port Douglas, the radio wasn't working in the car and the only music we had was a cassette of the sound track to Forrest Gump, which I still love to this day as it brings back great memories of that trip.
