Insomniacs Thread

Insomniacs unite!

We all get it a some time or another, at a time where & should be asleep but our minds won't let us, wether is is work or family pressures or something else.

Some will say that we don't work hard enough or the like but that's not the case.

For me it usually happens when planning a mod/improvement to the CT or 4by...you know stepping out each & every step, checking over what tools you have/need in your mind. Even down to the what type/number of screws/nails etc that are needed!

Sometimes it's the excitement of an upcoming trip but - I quickly realised that Myswag is not the answer as reading the threads actually gets my mind working overtime...but it will do until sleep finally does arrive.

Reply's/new subject matter is slow coming through at this time of night, perhaps we need to have a night time chat with other that are also wide awake?

I wake up early to go to work most days and sleep like a baby for 6 hours at night. But I have this week off and still waking up at 5 a.m. Last night after my daughters school concert, I popped into myswag and then looked at Complete Campsite webpage. All nite I tossed and turned thinking about their CTs. Now I am doing the same thing.

Hmmm, 1.5hrs to go till the end of my 12hr shift. Just got on as this was my first night back after 5 days off. Had to clear just over 1000 emails, make sure things went to bed and woke up OK this morning ( one didnt, but no big issue) .
Not an insomniac, just shift working, and nights are definitely Not good for me as I am solar powered. And as I get older the batteries run down quicker after sunset.

Over the last month or two I have joined the insomniac brigade. Largely due to work, I have hit burn out big time. Many years of listening to others stories of abuse and the like has taken it's toll. Hence I have put in my resignation for the end of the year and decided to head around Oz. Not sure whether I will make it to the end of the year though. It's time to pick some fruit for a while .

To think I was lying there awake when this was happening. Tomorrow morning I'll have something to look forward to, and a reason to shine my iPhone in my wife's face, as she does to me most nights when she gets up to the baby.

Mate, I know what you are going through as I was in the same position a couple of years ago. The final straw was when [after 14 months notice] my Rec. leave + LSL application still was unapproved 6 weeks before I was to leave - told my manager not to worry about it, I resigned. Best day of my life, now all I worry about is where the next trip is.

I'm sure you will have an epic trip

We have some of our grandkids stopping with us, they are extremely effective at slowly down the sleeping mode.

All this sounds a bit familiar.  Seven years working pm's,  going to bed at 1 or 2.  Still getting up with the brood at 6am.  Now I work am's, home at night for tea and stories with everyone.  Still sometimes catch myself at the 'puter doing this getting towards midnight.  Right now I am in the middle of a trailer mod, and not being an engineer it is a big deal for me.  Think about that a lot instead of sleeping.

I need a warm glass of milk to get me to sleep or a bottle of JD. Which one will work best

Warm milk with JD added perhaps?? Not sure what that would taste like though.

I got up to have a glass of water, (maybe it should have been milk and JD) and then thought I would just double check how to do the bearings on the defender, which I need to do on Saturday. Of course whilst I am at it, a quick check of MySwag was needed.

Night before a trip is what keeps me up, especially the annual Fraser Trip so I just snooze then hit the road at 3am to be at Inskipp for the 1st barge just to be there.
The worst was my prep for Aust Enduro championships couldn't sleep so just hopped in the car and drove through the night to the location & caught up on sleep when I got there

Hi,
I used to get sleepless nights stressing about things at work that I needed to sort, and were way out of my comfort zone.
I even went in at 4am one morning after tossing and turning all night and the solution came to me in a pre dawn half sleep.

Not any more!
Retirement is bliss, have only set the alarm clock about 4 times in the last 2.5 years, and most of those were for early starts to a trip.

Cheers
