Southern Land Camper Trailer

I looked at them today in Bayswater Vic. Does anyone out there own one? If so can you let me know so I can pick your brains. They certainly look the goods but concerned about the 3mm thick steel as opposed to 6mm. Cheers

Looks good, 3mm chassis would be fine only concern would be the angle draw bar. How do they compare price wise?

Agree with the others they look fine to me. 3mm RHS is what you would use on the chassis not 5mm in this application.
Id say they are using 5mm on the drawbar because it is angle and not RHS. Why they would use angle is beyond me??

so ask him to make it in 6mm then, if he makes to order it wont be an issue at all I'd guess

remember the big show is coming up soon, so expect some 89% off discounts at the show.... ;D ;D ;D ;D

125x75x6mm on angle draw bar which is same as the Aussie Swag and 100x50x3mm for chassis and  100x75x6mm for AS. He will use RHS for draw bar if I ask him and may change the 3mm for 6mm. My question is, is 3mm thick enough for a CT weighing around 800-900 kgs? If so I will leave it. I know f#%} all about these things. Is there a CT builder in the house? :D

Mate I am not a Mechanical Engineer so anything I say is unqualified, however 6mm RHS for a CT weighing less than a tonne or more to the point being 2 tonne or less fully loaded is over engineering if your using 100x50mm RHS for a draw bar or 75x50mm for a chassis in a traditional style of build IMHO.

Do a bit of research on the tried and proven CT's and you will find 3mm is quite common.

Looks the goods, no real pricing to be seen on the website but I will take the optional 60l engel at the advertised price of $1250!! Now that is cheap!!!

Seems like there are more and more hard floors out there every year.

Cheers Dave

Yeah, he won't be at the Flemington show where I am meeting JKohn. He picks up his AS that weekend. It will give me a good chance to see the AS up and personal. Plenty of time before next years trip ;D

I'm fumbling for how to put this other than do they have any association with another 'southern' branded company that a few of us had issues with last year.

Would be worth knowing.

Yeah I know where you're coming from Lost, my heart is set on a few companies
1.     Aussie Swag
2.     Complete Campsite
3.     Tarackabout
4.     S' Land
5.     Customline
6.     Vista RV
Not necessarily in that order,  And whatever else takes my fancy. Hee Hee
The man from S'Land just sold a demo for 8 K less. Missed out.

Daz, I doubt it. He builds mainly alum. Boxes for floats etc etc. hubby and wife and two others.

Hey Wyno,

How much are the Southern Land campers - they give their Options pricing but not the campers??

Have some sturdy walking shoes on as the day at Flemington with me will have you going to all the manufacturers and me pointing out what the subtleties were that made the differences for me :)

Looks like they pulled the pdfs with the prices. From memory around $40K for the base model and $50K for the top of the line.

Sorry to butt in.
Is the Flemington show the big one for camper trailers?
Or is there bigger in Victoria.

As D4D stated 40 for basic, 43 for middle of the range  and 49 for top of the line. He is building a smaller version without the big box in front for around 27?
No probs JKOHN ready and waiting for the 26th.
