Used it for many years and find it works well for fairly simple returns.
I suspect if your tax affairs are complex it might be more difficult.
You would probably be better using an accountant and worth getting a few quotes or ask some of your friends who they use.

You will need a number from your last tax return to lodge the E-tax. Im not sure what the number is called. I remember last year searching the house for it.
I think you can use the sequence number from any of your assessment notices not just last year. We both do ours online, have done for years, very simple as the program asks all the right questions.

People with Macs are so cool they don't need to pay tax...

Id say a Mac user is Equivalent to a Landcruiser or patrol owner.

They buy all the best rig, winches, tyres, lift kits.......camper trailers and then go spoil it with a PC........
Mac users have the best computer and go spoil it with a Holden Jackaroo and a softfloor camper.......

You cant have it all I guess...... ;D

Tried to use a Mac one day but couldn't find the right mouse key. Gave it up as a big joke. Have they fixed that yet?

No, apparently their Mac Version will not be released until next year.  Supposed to be this year, but a few teething problems.

Have used E-Tax for the last 4 years, its great.

Yep, thats one reason..
3 times I paid arseholes to do my tax for me, and 3 years I got audited and massive (1000's) having to pay back within 3 days or I faced marrying Joolia Dullard...

I'd rather miss out on a few sheckles than go through that hell again

<back on topic>

What the hell were they trying to claim to have to pay back 1000's? Gross it up and it says to me those guys were claiming the proverbial kitchen sink.

BTW E-tax... go for it.  Really is a 'dot to dot' process.

I have no idea where I left last years.
I found the year before up to 2006, but not the one I need.

I have been using it for the last few years and got the same back as paying someone to do it, done this years lastnight but then when it said I had to pay $470 I decided not to send it in yet, I will wait until october to send it in. I knew I would have to pay a bit back due to interest earned but didn't think the tax man would want a 1/4 of my interest earned back again  :'(. next years is going to be worse as I will have 12 months interest not 6 months  :'(

Use the tax service if your the average joe on a wage and have basic claims. Otherwise find an accountant that is trusted. Like mechanics you often get what you pay for.

yep, they bend you over... when I had my payout from my accident, they hit me for interest - then PROVISIONAL interest - in otherwords - pay up now what the tax pricks think you will have for next year
its worth seeing a financial advisor to do more with it, saving money aint worth siht really

yes yes, all those mindless windows zombie machines and the 47 different version of windows :D

mac in australia is no longer small, no longer different, no longer so obscure, that the tax department can't produce a system thats cross platform. everyone else on the entire planet seems capable of doing so.. :D

we won't even talk about iOS devices vs android. :D

some wiki (its on wikipedia - it must be true info).

By March 2011, OS X market share in North America had increased to slightly over 14%.[136] Whether the size of the Mac's market share and installed base is relevant, and to whom, is a hotly debated issue. Industry pundits have often called attention to the Mac's relatively small market share to predict Apple's impending doom, particularly in the early and mid 1990s when the company's future seemed bleakest. Others argue that market share is the wrong way to judge the Mac's success. Apple has positioned the Mac as a higher-end personal computer, and so it may be misleading to compare it to a budget PC.[137] Because the overall market for personal computers has grown rapidly, the Mac's increasing sales numbers are effectively swamped by the industry's expanding sales volume as a whole. Apple's small market share, then, gives the impression that fewer people are using Macs than did ten years ago, when exactly the opposite is true.[138] Soaring sales of the iPhone and iPad mean that the portion of Apple's profits represented by the Macintosh has declined in 2010, dropping to 24% from 46% two years earlier.[139] Others try to de-emphasize market share, citing that it is rarely brought up in other industries.[140] Regardless of the Mac's market share, Apple has remained profitable since Steve Jobs' return and the company's subsequent reorganization.[141] Notably, a report published in the first quarter of 2008 found that Apple had a 14% market share in the personal computer market in the US, including 66% of all computers over $1,000.[142] Market research indicates that Apple draws its customer base from a higher-income demographic than the mainstream personal computer market.[143]

About to do my wife's first tax return, she's only worked 2 months in a paid job this past financial year. (May and June)
Hoping I can do this etax, online abd free. Minimum charge I have been able to find around town is $100+gst for 2 pay checks and no deductions. Sounds simple enough, hopefully you don't need past history to do it online.??
Why do people ask "What the hell were you thinking?"
Obviously I was thinking I was going to get away with it and not have to explain it....
