Just remembered the name I knew of those Z-Rims...Marlin Z-Rims.
As to the shockie bike Snapman...mine was black like that one, but I don't recall to much else about it other then pretty sure it didn't have a yellow mudguard on it. I know I didn't keep it that long, it was just to heavy of a bike to pedal all over town

I think they were called Crossrider's. The early one had a dragster seat and a dummy fuel tank like a motorbike. Heavy as . I raced a Malvern Star BMX and I used to jump everthing I could find.  I remember breaking the frame and was stoked ( BMX talk  ) to get a new bike from M/Star for free.
The old man got a copy of a " Superjump " made and I used to have mates lay down and then their bikes and jump the lot. Wish i still had the nerve now that I am 50 ish. Before the Cotterless crank I had a love /hate relationship with Cotter pins

Funny you mention that...i took my girls for a bike ride yesterday to the local school, and then taught my eldest daughter to ride down some steps  Might be a while before i teach her to jump over her friends though. Sadly though i baulked at riding down a heap of steps i once wouldn't have thought twice about going down in my younger days, didn't help i was on the wifes old pushy either as my brother has my mountain bike....lol

Yeah they were called crossriders. Later ones came with padding with the crossrider motif printed on them. Often people would rip the Canary yellow mudguards off them.
The kid i knew who had one converted it to a chopper. Easy to do with the triple clamps. His dad was a plumber and he just pushed some 3/4" inch pipe in the clamps and flattened the ends to form dropouts. I think thid mod turned his 30kg clunker into a 40kg clunker with street cred. I recall he never keep it a a chopper for that long and reversed it back. I beleive the crossrider sort of came between the dragster and bmx era's.
I suspect 3 of mattRCs talons would tip the scales the same as a single crossy.

Yeah we had a mate that used to like jumping us. He would insist we all lay down behing the jump and not look up till he had cleared us.
In retrospect i think it was little mick mcphail that was the bravest as he always had to lie last in line.

Mate that was ultralight compared to the suspension models.
Actually nice looking old schooler that comet.
Even looks like a set of araya 7x's on her.
I remember they used to have a piece of yellow plastic in the gusset that made the "CR" letters stand out.

School's were great because of the groups of stairs, we advanced from riding down them to jumping off them. A few years back I showed a mate's son how to sit on the handle bars and pedal around facing backwards. He couldn't believe it could be done.

Coming back into this century

I've been watching the GMBN videos and they're really good. I'm a roadie trying to ride MTB and I've been doing it all wrong. This has some really good tips/ideas for riding the trails. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LXY8SIEnCdA

Coming from a Track and Road Racing back ground everything in that Vid is pretty much the same as I would race. The big difference being, is in how you would set a MTB up = shorter stem.

They're definetly not 7x's. They are not 7x copies, not even close. They are not annoyed. They are not alloy. They are steel. They have a coloured clear coat that  flakes off if it gets damaged, this doesn't happen with anodising. If anything they are a little similar to 7c's but not copies. Put a magnet on them, I'll drink a dozen cans tonight if it doesn't stick.

If there's interst I can take a pick of the 3 different rims side by side.

No I don't. Can ask a mate if he has any. His mother was obsessive with the camera. He had a Haro Sport (rich Dad  ) I can still remember putting it together in his lounge room. His Father bought it home from the States with him for his birthday. Spoiled Shit.

When I was in grade 5 a rumour was going around our school that a kid from another school was getting a Team Mongoose and was going to ride it past our school at lunchtime. For a week and a half every boy in our school was lined up along the front fence eyery lunch just waiting for a glimpse of this thing. When the day finally came we could see him coming up the road when this thing was right in front of us, the sun came out and hit that red candy over chrome you should of heard the ooh's and aah's. Lucky kid he was, not only did his old man buys him a bike that most of us could only dream about but the suck also got the day off school to go pick it up.


Both the sport and fst are fetching good dollars ATM.

I bought mine when it was around 6 mths old. It had a new set of previous model Sport wheels when I bought it. Weren't the Skyways or Tuff wheels, some other brand starting with P. Can't remember.

I can't remember what I paid for it but I do remember telling my old man I only paid half of what I did.   
Same week I bought mine, another mates older brother bought an SLR Torana for less than what I paid for that bike.

It had a new set of previous model Sport wheels when I bought it. Weren't the Skyways or Tuff wheels, some other brand starting with P. Can't remember.

Peregrine? Similar to a Skyway Tuff but the spokes are offset from the centre of the hub. OGK made a similar one.
Maybe ACS Z-rim, plastic rim with steel spokes?
