Pool company can do it, but at over $10K to dig a 7 x 4 hole and take dirt away, its a bit steep.
He even acknowledges he's dear, but its a take it or leave it type deal.
The guy I had lined up was going to dig and take away the dirt and fix the sewer and stormwater pipes that have to be rerouted for $3500.00 cash.

I'm happy to pay a reasonable price, but not get ripped off.

Brian

I just checked the invoices from our pool. Excavator was on job for 5 hours, 2 trucks running with a total of 8 loads. I was lucky as I found a house 10 minutes away which took 7 of these loads for free with the 8th going to the local tip which was I invoiced $100. Then 3 hours for the plumber to reroute the sewerage pipe. All up the above cost $2 700.

When signing the contract the pool company estimated $2 100 for the dig and $400 for the plumbing. So hence I got a $200 bill for a variation to the contract which isn’t bad considering some horror stories I’ve heard.

I can lend you our dogs if you'd like. They're quite adept at digging up our lawn. Unfortunately I've had no luck with getting them to dig in the right spots, so your pool might not be exactly where you wanted.

$10k for just the dig sounds steep. We were quoted $32k for a pool (all done, go-to-whoa) a year and a bit ago. Didn't go ahead though, so can't say whether that would have been accurate or not. My problem is that I want a pool AND a shed, and I'd rather get them done at the same time, hence it's another $30 for the shed which makes it one expensive project :( . Maybe in 10yrs time...

There's some good info in here for those of us considering going down this track - thanks to everyone for posting. I'll file this all away in the back of my brain for when we get around to it.

Good luck!
Matto :)

Perhaps yopu should consider the way we take some stumps out of the ground, a bit of frertiliser and some diesel, always leaves a lovely hole, and frequently can dig just a little to make a dam.

if your looking for somewhere to dump the fill, speak to a decent sized local earth moving mob, they usually know where to dump it either cheap or for free. we dumped 9 truck loads of soil from work on Wednesday for free at a local caravan park in Brisbane. the thing to watch in Brisbane when moving soil is if your in a fire ant zone or not. check first if your in the zones as you could get fined if you are caught moving soil without the correct paperwork.

If you hire a machine from Kennards Hire in NSW and use it on your own property you do not need a ticket.

Brian if you get really stuck drop me a PM and I will talk to the operator I use for electrical trenching at work who is a good operator. He has a 3t and 5t machine. I am not sure about a truck as he floats his machine when I see him. He is based out Emu Plains way.
