I usually keep my old whistle next to the phone and as soon as they ring, i blow the crap out of it. They never ring back. Even the Do Not Call register doesnt work.

I've never entered a 'bogus' sweepstake or anything, wldnt even occur to me - I'm pretty paranoid when it comes to identity theft etc. The only thing I can pin it down to is giving some money to a children's charity about 10 years ago - blind kids, or autistic, cant remember. I've been hounded by them and a few others ever since, plus these India phone calls. reckon they sold my details - 'here's a likely sucker, plenty of money'. Sadly, now I give money to no-one.

Had one call tonite, I kept telling him the problem was at his computer and I needed his credit card details so I could bill him $500 to fix it <g> He said he could not afford $500.

I also had Microsoft a few weeks ago....realised instantly it was a scam and for once had time to play along.  Agreed that my pc was going slow and needed help , could feel the excitement build at the other end.
After a while of asking them to repeat themselves because I didn't know much about computers, my excuses were running out to waste time so then explained that it was my dads pc and better that I got him on the phone.
Shouted several times in pretend to my dad to come to the phone that a helpful person was able to fix our pc .  My 3 year old was a bit confused at this, but then enjoyed the game of shouting 'dad' .  Every so often I would pick up the phone and apologize that my dad was slow to come to the phone just to keep them on the line.
I eventually got bored and hung up - they must have thought that it was just the line from India since they tried to phone back 2 more times.

mate,they get everywhere. I was home alone at my father in laws house in Germany. Doorbell rings, two well dressed people standing there. Man and lady. I opened the door, politely told them I don't speak German. That's ok. These people are quite talented.  They can preach in any language. Out comes English to try to convert me. I politely refuse in both English and German, to no success. They were still preaching while I closed the door.

This thread has been a great read. My daughter is pretty keen to answer the phone these days, I'm sure she can deal with them. She is 9 and knows everything.

I had a similar thing last night. Sitting down at my computer searching for insurance quotes for the wife's car, it's that time of year again.
Anyway, jumped on Youi website, answered all the questions, clicked OK and next screen said "you have been selected as a preferred customer, a customer service rep will call you soon.". Well, I didn't want to talk to anyone, that's why I used the webernet... So, many many calls on the home phone and my mobile, they gave up, but left at least 4 messages on each phone.. Desperate or what?.

I think I'll stick with NRMA...

Just had my own call from the friendly lady from India.

I'm afraid I wasn't so friendly, after saying hallo, she told me who she was. I didn't say a word, just hung up!   >:D
