Got any embarrassing moments or mishaps while camping? Post it here, I'll start.

Bought new tent
Bought new stretcher
Went camping with new tent and new stretcher
Set up tent, no problem
Set up stretcher, all good
Put stretcher in tent........stretcher waaaaaayyyy too big and would not fit in tent.
Went to nearest town and bought new smaller stretcher.
Next day, tent broke!!
Packed up and went home!!

Was camping with our scout troop in the late '70's at the Jamboree at Cataract Park.

It rained most of the time we were there, serious rain too, howling wind.

We were in the big tents with dividers.

Got up one night for a piss.  Was a bit disoriented and thought I'd open the flap of the tent and let the rain wash it all away.

I actually opened a centre flap by mistake and peed on one of the other scouts face!!!

Seen a guy with a new looking camper trailer - was his first trip - unhook his trailer and then run after it as it rolled down the hill. Travelled about 300 meters - luckily the trees at the bottom stopped it.

The only damage was to his pride...

My wife likes to tell this one, so I may as well get in early. 
Camping in a nice small camp ground in an outback Queensland town with a fairly moderate number of fellow campers and right beside us some Telstra workers set up in their swags.  At about 2 am I suddenly woke up with the urgent need to go to the toilet block to have a sit down type of moment. Got out of the camper, the air was so still and the night so quiet and peaceful, not another soul was stirring. As I was walking towards the toilet block a very loud noise let loose from my rear area.    Well it just echoed all around the ground, so much so I started to chuckle to myself, while at the same time feeling very embarrassed, so much so that further uncontrollable noises erupted, each time I took a step.  I did make it to the toilet without any mishap, but when I returned to our camper my wife was awake and laughing uncontrollably, and has ever since loved to repeat the story. 
In the morning I felt like everyone knew it was me and they were giving me that stare, especially the poor Telstra men!  Now please do not tell others, just keep it between you and me, and if you were there that dreadful night, I AM SO SORRY!   
Now I am too embarrassed to sign my name.....   Forget I said anything. :'(

Last year, got packed for Cape York. The trip had been planned for years.  Fourby packed, CT packed, we set off.  We arrived at Rockhampton and found the rear tailgate/kitchen locked.  :-[Couldnt open it anyway or how.  Racked my brains and realised, I had left the keys to the tail gate kitchen on the bench at home, so I would remember to take them.   A scramble at Cairns, with others who had the same type of CT, found them with an identical key.  It could have been a long trip away without opening the kitchen, but all was good.

Hi,
  Heading towards Birdsville, 2-up on the motorbike.
Getting near camp-time as we were crossing gibber desert country - flat as!
Pull off the track about 200m near a bit of scrub for what shade it could offer.
Strip off - it is still hot.
Need some fire wood - some off in the distance.
Wander off towards dead tree, wearing boots and a watch.
Dragging the tree back to camp and I hear lots of YaHooing and a beeping horn.
I had gone back near the road, and hadn't heard the station truck full of locals coming down the track.
Gave a wave and put on my best impression of being a white aboriginal returning to the camp.


Two days later, we fronted up to the police station to report that we had arrived ok.




"Ah right: You'd be the bloke dragging the tree!" he replied.

Happends to many campers with the ensuite showers. In there at night having a good scrub and forgets the silhouette from the light behind them! Many a laugh and ribbing to be had.

The wife and had arrived at the gimpe muster on Thursday nite to set up our camper while there was a lot of onlookers watching and drinking so all I wanted was to join in pull tent out rear fold went to hop up on the bed and had forget to put stablerisers down and well must admit would of been a funny site from outside wit draw bar 5 feet in the air .

First time I went to the Gympie muster (never been to the Gimp muster - lol) I parked the ute on an open bit of paddock late at night. In the morning we discovered that we had parked on a patch of FRESHLY burnt grass and there was black charcoal on EVERYTHING!   DOH!

We were camping at Emu Creek out near Blackbutt and witnessed a similar thing. Bloke lowers jockey wheel, undoes tregg hitch, unplugs trailer wiring then jumps into his 4by and takes off dragging the camper behind him. He forgot the safety chains... I don't know what was funnier the event or the monumental dressing down his missus gave him.

Were out camping with some friends recently. Had a great first evening with lots of beers. All good  . Woke next morning to discover our mates wife has disappeared in the car in the middle of the night??? Apparently this mate has a problem finding the toilet in the night and sleep peed under the table in thier camper van. Wife not happy Jan so after she cleaned it all up because he just got back in bed and kept sleeping she got in the car and drove 2 hours home. Only came back two days later to pack things up and take him and thier kids home. Beautiful. She probably had a nice quiet weekend at home.

I almost did the same thing at Tinaroo last year. Arrived hot,tired, and cranky to find our booked & paid for site had been taken. Didn't even consider the uneven ground. The only thing that saved the CT from ending up in the lake was a friendly bloke who wandered over for a chat and said 'Do you reckon you should chock those wheels before you unhitch?'

4 Years ago, I fell in river down a steep bank, got stuck in mud trying to walk down to a lesser slope (little over waist high water, and sunk well past my ankle in mud) and ended up being towed out by the boat (it was nearby) then swimming down to the shallow bank to get out,  and I lost a shoe.  That's not the worst of it, I copped a ribbing about it in front of a cute German backpacker at the pub that night, and haven't heard the end of it to this day.

Carrying 40L (2x 20L buckets) up a river bank, slipped one step from the top, managed to get both buckets onto the top of the bank barely spilling a drop, or so I thought.  Both buckets overbalanced as I hadn't quite gotten them far enough, drenching me.

First I knew the camper's handbrake needed adjusting was when I set up on a slight slope at Bivouac Junction (only site left on the Fanning river side). Put on the handbrake, unhooked the trailer and watched it make a run for the river. Luckily I was close enough to skew it sideways & stop it before things got nasty.  Bought some wheel chocks after that experience...

maybe Mr Mac can come on here and tell how his lovely wife thought she couldn't be seen where she went to pee one morning on our trip away last year. Mr Mac wondered why the bloke he was talking to was looking over his shoulder in a strange way, until he looked around himself and saw his wife in all her glory. calling out her name, she looked up and noticed 2 people could see her where she was, so she dived for cover

Many many years ago when I was in my late teens early twenties, I  left work Friday arvo from a military base I was posted to, got home with a mate, did a 45 minute rush pack of a Hilux for a 2 week hunting trip out Warren NSW ( no prior preparation) , left Sydney late Friday night , slept in car till morning, eventually got the muddy paddock of a farm late the following day.

Only thing wrong was I didn't  pack a tent, and we were out of town. My mate wasn't impressed.

Ended up making a lean too with whatever we could salvage and used busted up box cartons and seatcovers for ground sheets. Thank goodness I had sleeping bags packed.

By week 2 of the trip it rained us out and we ended up sleeping in a shed belonging to the farmers Neighbour ( costed half a carton of beer).

The area also had alot of Brown Snakes.

My mate never let that one go and I was constantly reminded of that fateful trip even hears later.

I bent two jockey wheels on the one trip....
on the same trip in winter I forgot to fill up the water tank. Was in a park so hooked the hose up and started filling the tank........hose popped out and drenched the kids bed.....then i thought a front loading washing machine was a drier....so shoved all the kids bedding in and proceeded to wet it even more..................
What a great day that was.

Many years ago I was camping with some mates at a caravan park. After numerous amounts of alcohol we spotted a girl in the distance attempting to put up a tent by herself.

From the distance we could make out blond hair and a good looking figure. My mate and I thought here's a go lets wonder on over and offer our assistance.

Both of us started walking over with a beer, singlets on, chests out. As we got closer she disappeared into the tent.

We continued walking over discussing our plans in chatting her up. Just as we got to the tent she came out!!!!!




























Holy crap she was in her 60's with bleached blond hair and asked if we came over to help. Quickly I replied my mate has I am on my way to the toilet.

We laughed all night stirring my mate up.
