Hmm. it is indeed hard to pick a spot, isn't it?  We have travelled in various ways (backpacked into the Arnhemland escarpments and all along the Katherine Gorge in the Top End, for example), taken an offraod caravan into special spots or just tented it.

Favourite highlights would include the Kimberley and Pilbara - Karajini National Park is very special.  Bells Gorge on the Gibb River Road is lovely.

Davenport Ranges (East of Tennant Creek) is special country, especially the ridgetop way out to the south.

Twin Falls is a unique and special part of the Top End.

I really like visiting Lower Glenelg National Park (near Nelson, Vic) and there are some lovely camp sites on the river. But don't go here in the school holidays if you can help it....!

For beauty, the best place I've been would have to be Wilsons Promontory.

A very close second would be Bright.
Strangely they are both in Mexico (Victoria - land of the crazed speewa) and I hate the cold.......

For atmosphere and that special feeling nothing beats Kings Creek Station.
I don't know why and I can't explain, but if you've been there you'll know.

On the subject of best place, I reckon any place you are getting away to and having fun is the best at the time.
Like when you're a kid, you're best friend is the kid outside your door.

Keep the wheels rolling and its all good............

Now I am not biased or anything, but I reckon the best place I know is where I live, on the edge of Lake Gregory in WA.

Carnarvon Gorge, the Daintree and Fraser Island. It's hard to pick one out of those three.

How about just stating ,, ANYWHERE IN AUSTRALIA!!!!!
however for me would be the Buckland Valley, just below mt Murray.
peace, solitude, bit of fishing & hunting, plenty driving or wlking tracks,, camps galore by the river..
What more could a body want

In all seriousness, I avoided this post for a couple of days because I knew I would have to start adding places to the itinerary.

Gotta love myswaggers for their unselfish sharing of the best of what this great country has to offer........... Just can't wait to get back "out there" - damn the lack of funds and if I ever find the b@5tard who came up with the idea of working for travelling money, well - we are going to have a verrrrrrry serious chat.

Oh, my favourite place would have to be the top of Tim Shea - a peak near Maydena in Tassies South West Wilderness that has recently been locked off because of vandalism.

I know  :worthles: BUT I've just been through all my photos from up there and none are good enough, so I will have to go back and take some more.

Yeah I've got heaps like that but they still don't really portray the beauty. Not to mention the 360 degree view.

The key for the gate is available (reluctantly) at the Maydena Adventure Hub but they are charging an exorbitant deposit for it. They said $200 trying to put me off last time I was there and I said "fine, no worries, it's only tossers YOU have to worry about".......They looked quite upset that I was ok (actually not at all) with paying a deposit to go up top.

It's still worth it.

TUMUT NSW and surrounds, ended up living there for 13 years and are now hanging to get back. The amount of camping and sight seeing available through the snowy, National parks and Forestry areas is unbeatable. 50,000 options all within a short drive of a crackin little town.

Going back next week for a quick visit and cant wait.

Hi,
   I took it - just a record shot, the lighting was pretty flat, and I was with a group, so not much time to muck about.
It is a pity about all the communication hardware stuck up on top there.
