Thanks Barrabart.  Having seen that contraption, and knowing it took me three days to learn how to use a microwave oven, I have decided that such a contraption will not appear in my house....unless the domestic Prime Minister decides otherwise that is.  I have invested in a Beer Machine, and that is technocratic enough, although the wife is in Broome and does not know about that investment yet.

LOL, it was an accident - I swear! I just didn't see it (as it is clear plastic), however it made a terrible noise as it was getting chewed up by the blender.

I did get the "evil eye" from the Mrs for a while afterwards :-[  At least the Thermomix itself works fine, just the clear lid thingy is a bit worse for wear.

I think 90% of them get called Thelma.  Would we take ours camping? No. They are very good but camping is about getting back to basics

Kmart sell an exact replica bellini 8in1 multifunction kitchen machine for 269. Does everything the thermomix does at a realistic price...

YEP.... we sure did actually it was a little more than that  >:D >:D >:D .... and i have no regrets i love my thermie.

i am gunna make some bickies tomorrow for the kids lunches ...... i might even keep a little of the bickie dough and freeze it and do a test run see how it handles the prep. i might have to do a bit of a "compare notes" with  Kiva, GadgetMan, and Liney on what worked well and had no dramas unfreeze and cooking while out camping

We got one, brought it brand new.......from spain. Saved something like $600 over buying one in Australia.

I wouldnt take one camping  - I'll draw the line at taking the bread maker camping.

In regards to the noise of a gennie....... I reckon a thermomix at full speed would easily drown out the noise of the genset >:D

My mum had the e31? But bought one of thebellini ones as well to try it out for the price. She ended up selling the thermomix as the bellini did everything she wanted for 80% less cost.
The best thing about thermomix is the resale though, i think she ended up getting 1600 for it on ebay.

Glad you saved some $$$ ... we had a sniff on the net .... but i was too chicken to spend that much and i was paranoid i guess that the warranty would be a drama in Australia ....now that i have put it to the test i reckon i wont ever use it cause i think it will be a long time before it needs a Dr trip.

hehehe especially if i got a fruit daiquiri happening ....when i am planning on having an alcoholic slush .... i whip it up chuck it in the fridge so i wont wake the skid lids while barrabart and i are trying to have a moment of peace after they are asleep.

We took the plunge on one of these a couple of months ago and they are great, gets used at least once a day at the moment and makes life so much easier. Made up some pizza dough the other week and took it camping with us.

My wife bought a travel cover for ours....yes she is planning on bringing it on our trip around Oz. So I ask her what she will go without so we can fit it in the truck or trailer. Well I thought I had her checkmated right there...but no...seems I will be taking less clothing!


Bloody brilliant bit of kit as long as the chef likes using it. Ours is used 2 - 3 times a day! My wife even goes too Thermomix cooking parties and kids and I get to feast on the experiments.

i still love mine ...... and i would love to hear how your thermo travels .....

i have slowly been converting my favourite recipes to "thermo style" ....

my fav dinners are honey mustard chicken, honey soy chicken with noodle and veg stir fry, beef risotto and making my own lamb mince Sheppard's pie.

Im in Townsville, but funnily enough we bought ours through an agent in Port Kennedy WA., though the Townsville lady came round and deliovered it and did the demo.

I put up with the nagging from the wife for 18 months before i finally caved in and coughed up the dough!  i've been converted into a fan, not only does it do everything, i now have to spend less time in the kitchen helping out!

My only complaint, sometimes it can be a little noisy, but that just means i go outside to man land for a bit longer!

Hi All,

We have had a Thermomix for a while and although I am too scared to use it (1- I am male so therefore hopeless at reading instructions and 2- I am soooo afraid of hurting it...kind the opposite of happy wife happy life that would be!)  I am amazed by what it can do. Last night we had epically good fried rice and then mango sorbet for desert. All done in under 45 mins - including the eating!!! ;D

So he big question is....can this be taken camping without a Generator? We have 2 x 100amp deep cycles in the camper and a dual battery in the Challenger...we are planning an around Oz trip and are planning to integrate a solar set up. 

Thoughts from those in the know?

Hi Matt,

I would be very dubious about running it off an inverter, because I reckon it would chew the guts out of your batteries. I haven't actually looked at the specs but I would GUESS it would draw something in the vicinity of 2000w due to it having a heating element and motor. For a start, that is one BIG inverter. But then convert that into amps at 12v - you're looking at more than 160A!!!! Your batteries aren't going to last long at that rate of discharge, not to mention the size of cable you'd need to supply it with...

Was thinking a bit along those lines... Have read somewhere that you just run the car whilst you are using the Thermie but even that sounds dubious.

We have sill made use off it prepreparing food for trips.

We take delivery of ours this Friday, reason for buying need to, sorry got to lose weight after a heart scare a week or two ago

We hope it's going to allow us smaller portions, better control of additives etc. yes you can do all that in normal cooking but typical family time poor!

My wife went to a thermomix demonstration on the weekend. She came home raving about it, and told me she is getting one.
Had to pick myself up.off the floor when she told me the price........
"You want to spend how much on a kitchen appliance ??? "
She gave me that look (guys, you know the one), and said "You want to spend how much on the Pajero!"
Touche!

For those that do have a thermomix, are they really that good? Do you use it enough to justify the cost? Do I upgrade the suspension on the Paj instead? >:D ;D ;D
