Incorrect or no punctuation can really screw up your message e.g.

How about:

I'm off to help my uncle, jack off the horse.

OR

I'm off to help my uncle Jack off the horse.

Personally, I've been on here long enough now that I've come to the point where I can get a feel for the comments made by the person who made it.  You've got the one line repliers, the essay writers, the passive agressive types, the know it alls etc. 
Sometimes I've gone into a members profile (yes it does feel like stalking!) and you get a feel for their general tone/misdemeanor just by reading their past posts.

Not only is punctuation and spelling a problem, but a lot of the time a persons comment can be misconstrued by the fact you don't get to hear the inflection or tone of what they're trying to say, compared to hearing it in person.

That's my opinion and God dammit, you would all abide by it if I had my way.

Anyway, I'm off to see uncle jack...

As for spelling - I appeal to the court of speewa. My opinion is that my spelling is only a problem for everyone else... 

Good thread - I like the advice of taking a minute to pause before pressing "Submit". I've been accused of saying something that was completely against the intention of my original message, however re-reading said message from the other person's point of view lets you see why they may have misread it, and how I could have been clearer initially. I think most people here aren't malicious or argumentative, but this communication medium makes it easy to take things the wrong way.

Let's all chill out and cut everyone some slack.

Agreed - no one should ever have to consider giving up beer.
