My 70 Deckson daredevil
My cruiser
Well here's my new baby An original Australian delivered RHD '66 Mustang, it's for when it's too windy to be on the bay Dave
I just built this. I'm in the process of painting it. Will launch on a wheat farm near Meandarra at the end of June. Should get close to 12000' up, at a speed of roughly Mach 1.5. Next year I'll put a motor in that will push it to 14000' @ Mach 1.7. The fins are so sharp I cut a finger on the leading edge while I was setting up.Photo is the setup of the parachute ejection tests I did yesterday. You can see the tests here and here.If anybody is in the neighbourhood of south west Queensland in mid March next year, you should get along to Thunda Down Under. It will be the biggest high power rocket launch ever held in the southern hemisphere. Bush camping on a massive wheat farm. Projects from all over the world, including a full size replica V-2 missile from Victoria. Open to the public. You won't see something like this in Australia again for a very long time.
That looks like fun, what happens when it reaches max height?
That is coolSwannie
I would like to have this.....
X500!You want a Jeep?
It has altimeters that detect it has started on the way down and they activate charges that break the rocket apart and eject a small parachute (the drogue). That brings the rocket down fairly quickly so it doesn't drift away in the wind. When it then gets to a preset altitude, the altimeter activates further charges that blow the nose cone off and ejects the big parachute (the main) which slows it right down for a gentle landing. Then you have to find it.. I installed a GPS tracker which let me drive right to it. The first photo shows all parachutes out (from an earlier, lower flight), and the second is where we found it after the big launch. The little dots on the right hand side of the horizon is where we launched from.
make sure you keep reminding us about Thunda Down Under, i want to go out and see this event next year
No problem. I'll start a thread in the trips forum when registrations are open. It's a fantastic location to camp, too. It's a family affair, so bring the billy lids if you have any. The kids will have the chance to choose a rocket and fly it, then take it home. I've gotten started on building a couple this afternoon.
