Which stove for drifta kitchen?

G'day all. Ok, so we got our new CT on the weekend and it has a Drifta swing out kitchen on the tailgate. Problem is, my Coleman 3 burner stove is too big for the stove space. Bugger, cos its a great stove IMO. Anyway, a few questions:

1: What sort of stove do people use with their Drifta kitchens?

2: Do you have it permanantly attached to the kitchen?

3: Low or hi pressure? Pros and cons.

This can be problematic. There are few low pressure stoves and fewer still that will fit.

I'm guessing most have a high burner stove and something to sit that gas bottle on as high pressure hoses are max 1.2m long and barely reach the ground from the bench top.

I was thinking of making a frame to hold a two burner cast iron burner. The frame is required because the factory legs are just too long.

Meantime I was using a two burner Jackeroo stove that worked really well, except for having to move the gas bottle close each time.

Not sure if it will fit but I have a Lido in my camper and it works well

From the Drifta website http://www.drifta.com.au/settFAQ.php they recommend a companion 3 burner. Must be slightly smaller than yours.

I know it's not going to help if you already have your kitchen, but we got Luke to modify our kitchen slightly (by lowering shelf the stove sits on) so a Lido Junior stove would fit.

I use a Coleman low pressure stove and it doesn't fit in my Drifta kitchen. So, I just take it out and put it in the big storage box that is beside the kitchen. It doesn't really bother me that I have to do that as part of my set up.

We used a coleman 2 burner stove that fit perfectly.
We just set the gas bottle on the ground behind the tailgate...

The Primus 2 burner fits perfectly. We did a lot of shopping around to find one that we could leave in place permanently and the Primus was the only one from memory. Having said that, we are really happy with it's performance - it's a great stove and I would be happy to recommend them.

Cheers everyone. Its a bugger my coleman is too big cos its hose is 1500 and easily reaches the gas bottle without having to move it.

Tracey family, when you say you leave your Primus in place permanantly, have you bolted it to the kitchen, and if so, how? Also does the hose reach the gas bottle without having to move it?

I don't really mind moving the bottle, but i kinda like the idea of opening the kitchen, attaching the hose to the bottle on the trailer and thats it. The less time spent on set up, the more tome spent on !!!

Haven't come across the Lido's before, GG. What are they like?

No not bolted - it just sits in place and stays there when we pack up. We've put one of those rubber mats under it so it doesn't move around much. As for the hose, no we sit our gas bottle on the ground under the kitchen. I've never looked into getting a longer hose but you've got me thinking now.

This is the stove we have. It's the high output regulated 2 burner.  Haven't had a problem with it. Originally I wanted a 3 burner because I've had a 3 burner for years (and our old Companion 3 burner would have fit but it was ready for retirement) but I'm glad we ended up with this one instead because the burners are big and well spaced and I love the piezo ignition.

Sounds like the same set up as you, Drifta swing out kitchen.
We bought a Companion 2 burner low pressure stove and it sits in there perfect. I have bought a couple of brass adaptors that has given me enough length to leave the bottle on the side of the trailer. Hook stove up, run the line to bottle, hey presto!

Is your stove like this 2 Burner Wok Cooker. This would be ideal in a Drifta kitchen. I wonder would you need some sort of heat protection underneath?

I would think so. Had a look at the manual online (available in the link you posted). This thing must be used to power small power stations or something!!!! The warnings and safety instructions make for great reading!!! They do state it must be installed on stainless steel, ceramic tiles or similar non-combustible materials. Don't think timber falls into this category!!! Good looking little unit though. Wonder how much?

I've used one of these before too, we hired a Johnno's CT and that was the stove supplied with the CT, i reckon it was a ripper, easy to clean too with the stainless steel insert,  the flame ignitor worked spot on, and it seemed a fairly robust little unit........ not tinny like some of the others on the market.

Haven't used too many others to be honest, but if i was in the market for a stove i'd buy one of these units.... did everything i asked and i'm impressed.
