Just over a 1000 people in Babinda, so some must come from there.

The town generally vies with Tully, each year, to see which wins the Golden Gumboot, for the highest rainfall in Australia. 4.8 metres of rain in 2009 - http://www.abc.net.au/news/2010-01-04/babinda-mops-up-seventh-golden-gumboot/1197782

Did I see you had a boat in one of your photos on your camper build, plenty of fishing around Babinda, the Russel river is just up the road for one.

My mum hails from Babinda.  Unfortunately my Grandmother recently passed away, ending 60+ years of the family living in Babinda.
It's a nice quiet spot.  "The Boulders" is just up the road - great swimming spot.  Josephine Falls isn't far either.  Even Babinda Creek has a couple of spots for swimming.  As said, the Russell river is nearby and has some good fishing (or at least used to).

It's nestled in the foothills of Mt Bartle Frere - hence the rain.

Babinda township itself is like most little Sugar Farm Towns it's laid back and most the people are as genuine as they come........ also we live up in Edmonton and every once in a while we go down to the Babinda State Hotel Chinese Restaurant....... it's a little restaurant in the dining room of an old country pub and its a bloody hidden gem......... best Chinese meals outside.... China.
Like others have said,  Babinda surely represents the wet tropics, and the Russel and Mulgrave Rivers merge just up the road and head out to sea....... just out from the mouth you'll find the Russel Island and a few others........ and behind Babinda is Mount Bartle Frere and i'm pretty sure it's the highest Mountain in Qld, covered in rainforest and not often you can see the entire mountain as the top usually disapears into rain clouds.......... come to FNQ mate, chill out and slow right down, it's all good.
Trackabout Safari towed by an old HJ75 Cruiser Tray Back.. Lovin'it!!!

ok I'm interested... I was hoping it would have been posted... can I ask what the job is? I'm just curious cause I wouldn't expect too many options for employment in Babinda...

I got a good mate who works at the school, so that's the only option I could think of people being posted or moving like that- was I close?

Babinda school is great - Used to visit there a few years ago when I was an Advisory Teacher- really liked the place. Always thought that the town has a nice atmosphere. Cairns is close if you need the big retail hit and so many places to visit - youll have a ball - You will havew to come to one of our My swag dinners. Hope the move goes well - Morag

Hi Morag, ... thanks, should be a great way to spend a year. I'm at uni external so will be nice and quite during weekdays and have the weekends free to explore the area. Never know, it could turn into an extended posting being a 3, just see what happens...

My mate who works at the school is happy there and has stated there is a good leadership team- that makes all the difference.  Hope you enjoy it and good luck to your wife in the new position. NQTY
