Hey everyone.

I'm looking for a "full H.D. offroad" pop top type, (hard roof when open) "not" fold out camper trailer up to 13ft for a trip around Australia. I really like the Jayco, Coromal, Goldstream, pop-top's style unfortunately (so I hear, Dont know personally) they are not considered full offroad and even come with a warning "has offroad limitations" so I don't want limitations of where I can go because it might break etc. I have some knowledge of the QLD market, but don't know much about the southern or WA market.

Features I must have.
Pop top
Inside cooking, fridge, sink and seating/table
Outside BBQ or at least can be added
Sleeps 3-4 people must have FULL queen bed minimum 2050mm x 1520mm

Anyone with some feedback, thoughts, suggested manufacturers etc would be greatly appreciated

Thanks heaps

Norm

OzHitch,

Do yourself a REALLY BIG favour and go see AORC (Australian Offroad Campers) 15 Caloundra Rd, Caloundra West, and look at the Quantum.  The only thing on your list that it doesn't have is the inside cooking.

Mrs T & I have one and I have no doubt that it'll go anywhere I can get my Cruiser, built like the proverbial brick out-house and after sales service second to none.

We carry a Baby-Q in the 700 litre storage shed, amongst other things. Also comes with roll out awning, gas HWS, shower, dunny, SS slide out kitchen, 280 litres water storage, diesel heater (option as with aircon). :cup:

Thanks to everyone for ideas so far. Really want that hard roof above when open like the Jayco. Need to live in this camper I choose for maybe a year or so needs to be bigger than the Ultimate, Vista Rv Hard roof "popup" like the Jayco.   ???

I do like the AORC I had one of there Odysseys a few years back. All my camper up to now have had outside cooking and having done 2 trips around already I have experienced the flies and mozzies enough that I now want to cook and eat in peace  ;D  BBQ outside, rest cooked inside is ideal for me now, then sit inside to eat. Gotta keep the main cook happy too  ;) If AORC had inside cooking I would have another in a flash.

Thanks  ;D

Another one is the Topaz - by trak trailer, or conqueror which although not pop top has hard roof and two beds sleeps 4, complete campsite mini van - all have inside cooking, try bolwell, if you are to live in for twelve months may be one of these would be the go. Cheers John

North Coast Campers - XLT Topender
Aussie Off Road - Gunyah (change the big fridge to a smaller fridge + stove top)

They are both pricey but will handle anywhere you would like to go.

Hi!
We have a Topaz and it seems to really tick all the boxes you want, the after sales service is fantastic, it has inside cooking, queen size bed, eat inside, plenty of storage, external shower with hot water. check out the paveys web site they are travelling for 12 months and writing about it. A few write ups in the camping magazine. I think their website is dirt4wheel drive. If you google it, it will come up.

Where do you plan on going?

Do a search on this site, you will find a lot of people have taken the jayco/coromal/golstreams a lot of places.

My jayco has done the Strez, oodnadatta, Mt Dare, Flinders, Dalhousie, Tobermorey high country (not Zeka spur or anything like that!!!)  etc etc

Spend the money on a good compressor and take your time, you'll be able to go most places in comfort.

... If AORC had inside cooking I would have another in a flash...
The Quantum can be optioned with a cooker inside, next to the vanity basin, not quite a full kitchen but does mean you can cook inside.

However, they now produce the Matrix and while its a full height van, its virtually the same as the Quantum except it has a full inside kitchen plus a pullout outdoor BBQ (Weber Q) and is only 0.5m longer. As you already know the superb AORC quality, its perhaps one to check out.

Cheers
