Very nice Steve - impressive job description, and sounds like it will suit your lifestyle perfectly!

Should be an interesting job to top it all off. Sounds like you can make a real difference.

having to deal with IT staff and services up here. Got a feeling I will earn my dough..
It's "challenging", sometimes, in a regional location. Definitely different to being in a big metro region, anyway (both staff and services-wise)  ;D.

Good luck!
Matto :)

I know how you feel. I was a Telstra tech based out of Derby a few years ago. late model datsun, engel fridge, chook pellets, throw net and fishing rod were all packed every Monday morning.

My mate was a helicopter pilot and we used the unused hours to go fishing. Enjoy your time up there I did.

While your on the subject of tax see it you can move to Fitsroy Xing the remote location allowance is higher ;)

Be careful what you wish for Symon 8). You could get a job here tomorrow if you really want. The job I'm leaving and in fact the whole of Broome need licences cabers at the least. As your a sparky as well you would be snapped up in - Oh I dunno, a minute..And I'm serious....

Steve, Deb's eye's lit up when Yog's made a comment about the Kimberly in 2013.  We would be in, but saying that, we have a lot to deal with between now and then. We'll get to the Kimberly sometime.

Just saw this thread too, well done to find a job that pays you to live the dream. Would be perfect if the wife & kids were allowed along for the drive. Umm.. on second thought, maybe just some of the drives  8)

I have seen that before it looks fantastic. We left Derby in 2001 with my wife 7 months pregnant. That wet season was a good one too. The year before we saw 205mm of rain in 1 hour when a tropical low passed to the north of Derby. I think it was new years eve. The water was 1 iinch from the tops of the gutter and it was flowing down my driveway like a storm water drain. The amaising thing was the next day it was hardly like it had been raining apart from a few puddles on the ground. I remember driving to Broome and the road having a foot of water over it which was continuous for about 3ks.

Wow, talk about the dream job.  Let me know if you want an ex-nurse with IT and management qualifications who has been doing healthcare systems implementations for the last 8 years (and who would really like to be living where you are)  ;D

Seriously, congratulations.

You've now jioned the elite Myswags who have managed to incorporate job and love (sorry dear second love ::)) and get paid for it.
I myself finished IT for the State Gov in early 2009 and haven't looked back.
I now traverse most of the rivers and creeks from the Jardine (yes I walked across it just below the Monument and it took 25 mins :o) to the Burdekin measuring how much water flows through them. The trips mostly last one week but accasionally extend to two weeks. ;D
Yep the Gov has a Boating, Camping and Fishing Group  :-X(fishing after work has finished ;)).
Being exIT perhaps we could job share...? :4x4:
Good luck with it.
