if the French had got here first we wouldn't have to worry about tree huggers keeping us away from the bush, it would all be too radioactive to visit in the first place. and they had such a "great" record of looking after native populations compared to the UK...........oh and it would of been a lot easier for them to go into New Zealand and blow up ships - not that they needed any help doing that - lovely language maybe, but planetary terrorists that are great at starting wars and even better at losing them  ;D

The French did get hear first, 3 days before Cook, it was a certain French bloke called La-Perouse, apparently he didn't like the place :cup:

We wouldn't be hear if it was settled by the French, or the Dutch or Potuguese, seeing as most of us are of Irish, Scottish and English decent!!

You are kidding, Queen arrives in Australia soon!
I am so excited and I would love to go, but I don’t think it would be the same without Freddie Mercury.  :'(

You never know, old Lizzy might get up on stage with our beloved " ranga" Julia as a duet, and belt out a few tunes on the karaoke mic to " Bhohemian Rapsody"

I wonder if that would help both their popularities in the poll.

Do you think Lizzy and Phil might take some time off their tour to do the gunshot creek crossing on their way to Cape York with a Bentley towing a T Van.

If your that rich you would still try it in a Bentley just to see if could be done, if it gets bogged just leave it and fly out via an overpriced VIP Helicopter ( air-conditioned of course).

I take it you never fly via personalized VIP helicopter without air conditioning. After all it's like taking a bath on your personalized jet without Cussions Imperial Leather Soap.

RAAF Jets Hmmm

Does that mean Maverick PM Bob Catter is really " Maverick"

Do our pollies play volley ball with their shirts off.

In the polls has Julia " lost that loving feeling" with the electorate.

The Queen has lived in luxury her entire life but she has also lived every minute in the 'spotlight'.  This would drive the average person to anger very quickly yet she is always the epitome of grace and decorum and shows respect regardless of the circumstances.  I cannot call myself a monarchist but I believe this woman deserves our respect in return.  She has done nothing to harm Australia or its people, and is still formally our Head of State.  Remember, the majority of Australian voters, by referendum, chose the Queen as head of state by rejecting the republican model.

"Dole bludger" is not a fair comment either. Great Britain relies heavily on the tourist revenue generated by the royal family and she CHOOSES to pay tax on her earnings - hardly the mindset of a dole bludger. I think we need to be more careful who we ridicule, and why we do it.

I dont agree with this sorry,Ithink the question in the referendum was misleading as  most voted against the parliment electing our president, not that we didnt want a republic

"The 1999 referendum

On 6 November 1999 a referendum was held to see if Australian citizens wanted Australia to become a republic. A referendum is a special election to see if the country wants to change something in the constitution. For a referendum to be successful, both a majority of people and a majority of states have to say ‘yes’.

This referendum asked the country to decide whether they wanted a republic where the president was elected by a two thirds majority in parliament. 46% of Australian voters voted ‘yes’, while 54% voted ’no’ – which meant that the changes did not pass.

Many republicans, including Malcolm Turnbull, blamed John Howard for the failure of the referendum. Howard, who was prime minister of Australia at the time, publicly expressed his intention to vote ‘no’ in the referendum. A lot of pro-republic voters also voted ‘no’ because they felt that the method proposed for electing a president was undemocratic
I dont mind going to work, its the 8 hours  i have to wait to go home again that annoys me.

I do not hate the Queen as a person, she is probably very nice, but I do hate what the royal family stands for, regardless of where they are, through history these families and sectors of them have persecuted, lied, killed and invaded countries for there own greed and lust for power and money.

She's not even of English ancestry.

Mrs Saxe-Coburg Gotha's ancestry is German.  Her grandfather changed the name to Windsor (after the castle) during WW1 to reduce British public concern at the very obvious germanic name.

Similarly, her uncle's family changed their name from Battenburg to Mountbatten at the same time and for the same reason.

None of this affects whether or not Betty is a nice person, but demonstrates how the current royals are 'johanny come latelys' to 'Britain'.

For a genuine Scot to sit on the throne would require the re-establishment of the line of James the 1st of Scotland (2nd of England).

Of course, technically, since the Stone of Scone was 'lost' none of them have been properly crowned anyway!   >:D

You think old Lizzy and Phil will get some free time between official duties on their tour for a dirty night having a romp in the sack, or Saturday morning taking the Bentley down to Bunnings to pick up some crown polish, do some DYI classes and pick up a snag on a bun and a soft drink.

I bet ole Lizzy has a few ideas on home reno's and loves a discount sale, before she drives out of Bunnings car park with a few sheets of plywood and some 2 x 4 on the roof of the Bentley.
