Hi guys and girls,
I am looking forward to going back to work tomorrow so that I can have a rest. Boy have I done some miles on my days off trying to put something together.
Firstly: Stannery Hills dam, bloody great area for a myswag get together, plenty of camping room, heaps of water full of Bream and red claw. Lunch one day at the Irvinbank pub with those who want a visit to the Irvinbank Histrocial museum. Sounds bloody great, big problem, the country is so dry and fires are everywhere the land holders will not allow anyone to camp there unless it rains.
Next idea : Off to Collins Weir, Great spot, again bream , redclaw, boating, swimming and beer. Problem, since I was last there, over 20 years ago, the land holders have fenced the best camping spot off. No bloody room for a myswag do.
Brain into gear : Koombaloomba Dam, 37 clicks from Ravenshoe, the last 16 clicks well formed dirt road. On arrival the water level is low but as yet no restrictions on boats or engine size. Massive flat area for setting up the camp trailer, fair amount of room under shady trees and a huge open area for those others.
Free camping with a long drop toilet, probley good idea to bring your own Shitter. Very short walk/drive to the waters edge, with the option of bringing boats/kyaks and enjoying the lake for what it is. Barra, Bream and red claw all all there. Waters edge is a little far to be able to pump up water for the camping area but again only short walk/drive.
There is still the option of the group going into Ravenshoe for a Christmas meal at one of the fine PUBS in the town, or a camp cook up with every one throwing in a meal. Not my choice as this can be sorted out later.
Fire wood is not availaible on site, but I am more than preparied to drag me camp trailer out there with me old 73 G60 tray back nissan loaded to the brim with fire wood.
There is an old steam train in Ravenshoe that does a weekly trip down the rail line and return on Sunday afternoon, Not sure what cost or what is supplied but I will check this out if anyone shows interest.
As this will be a Christmas do, fairy lights around the camp and trailers would be a nice touch, dont be shy as I wont be.
So OK what do you all reckon. A Christmas get together at Koombalooma Dam, Friday the 25 th Nov through to Monday the 28th Nov.
Bring Grog, bait ,food, vabbie pots, more grog and oh yea your faimly.
